The Bat looked more like a giant flying lobster, but it was still a beast in flight.

Like others have said there's really no contest. The Bat would demolish the Batwing.

The Bat was an amazing addition to the Batman mythos, though. A very unique but interesting design. However, I loved the various Bat vehicles in the Burton and Schumacher films. Well...up til B&R anyway. The Batwing has always been a favorite of mine growing up, though.

The Bat was cool but it was nowhere near as iconic as the Batwing.

Joker shooting it down with a pistol aside, the Batwing. Forever and a day! Its a movie, so IMO the more iconic vehicle should win!

The Bat is more agile and would outmaneuver The Batwing.

Depends on who's sitting in the cockpit. Keaton's Batman can't aim for ****

Agreed. And it must be super fast, getting the bomb out of the 6 mile radius in a minute.

It's actually not that implausible speed wise. Someone on imdb i think calculated how fast the bat would have to be moving to travel 6 miles in a 1 and a half or so minutes and it was "only" like around 350 mph which is well below the speed of most modern jets.

Maybe one of the math guys here can calculate it?

Whoa now were getting into speed specifics eh? Well ya as far as being practical The Bat is a better choice.

I feel like The Batwing can do pretty much anything The Bat could, except for hover, and with much more style. I dunno, I just prefer it. The Bat didn't appear to be moving all that fast comparitively.

The only thing The Batwing couldn't "aim" right for was The Joker, and that's because of The Joker's massive luck, which is a staple of is comic book character

No, not really. I'm happy to accept the narrative that the Bat got the bomb out in time. I'm commenting on the great speed the vehicle possesses.

For pure iconography you can't really beat Burton's bat-wing as it was essentially the symbol as a flying machine. But at the hesitation of sounding like a Nolan fanatic I actually kind of like the bat more, because it looks more functional and able to do what it does in the movie (even though it's fiction). I've always thought that if Batman were to have a flying vehicle it would be some sort of helicopter or hovercraft.

Crappy writing is more like it. Hated that aspect of the movie even as a 5 year old and have grown to hate it even more over the last two decades.

Despite this, I voted for the Batwing because the imagery is far more iconic and the Elfman music during those scenes is perfect.

The question isn't which you like better, it's which would win in a combat situation against the other.

Watched Batman 89 today, after having seen TDKR only a few days ago. And I cast my vote to the Batwing. It simply has much faster speed, better weapons, and higher ceiling rate.

Of course The Bat is gonna win, it's a flying tank for Christ's sake!

But I've always loved The Batwing more because I actually believed you could fly it and that moon pose is pretty impressive hahaha

I voted for The Bat just because this is a combat debate

Based on what you saw from the two of them there is no way you can vote against the bat.

Better weapons? What's the point of Gatling guns and missiles if you can't hit a human sized target straight ahead of you with all your sights all lined up? not to mention again the joker hit the batwing dead center with his revolver in his first shot and took it down. The Bat was made for urban combat it can manoeuvre in and out of buildings and for speed it was dodging missiles left and right.

The more i think about the batwing and its one scene i really feel it was put there just to be a vehicle to sell toys. In the grand scheme of the plot it achieved very little.

I like the word practical about as much as I like the word relevant. Guess which vehicle I prefer.

The Bat. That felt like a real lethal vehicle that couldn't get obliterated easily by some gimmicky Joker gun he pulled out of his pants.

People to continue to complete miss the point of The Batwing VS Joker in BATMAN.

Completely.

The Bat. Both on looks and weaponry.

On the technical side, the Bat must have been farther than 6 miles since Gotham did not feel any shock waves from the blast. The bomb going off 6 miles from Gotham would have an effect, though it would be negligible.

I just want to go on record, and say that The Bat never took a hit in TDKR. So we don't know the limits of its armor. Damn think could have gone done JUST as easily as the Batwing.
