I'm convinced Marvel will fit one other film into 2015, assuming A2 actualluy comes out then.
A quick question - do you all think A2 will just simply be 'Avengers 2' or will it have a subtitle like Thor and Cap's sequels? |

It will be funny to watch other studios stumbling over each other for June/July 2015 release dates, as May is unofficially "called"

Not sure Avengers 2 will be that May, but yeah, Marvel has that market cornered.

lol..true. No movie with a sizeable budget is going to want to open anywhere near Avengers 2.

“Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.”
Through June 2015...I imagine this kind of confirms Avengers 2 for May 2015. Sorry, Lord! |

Yup, I think Marvel just unofficially made official a May/June 2015 release date for Avengers 2.

It will come out either May 1, 2015 or July 17, 2015*. Mark my words.
* = keep in mind Marvel originally scheduled Avengers for July 15, 2011 before Harry Potter 8 seized that spot. Disney/Marvel might want to take that prime mid-July spot since it's even better than early May.

May seems the most likely month, like most tentpole films.

WB usually takes the mid Jul spot but they are out of hot properties. If I am Disney, I go:
Ant-Man Nov 2014/March 2015 Hulk 3/Avengers 2 May 2015 Avengers 2 July 2015 Basically lock up that year. There are no other Marvel movies scheduled currently that far down the line. No notable DC movies. Man of Steel sequel would be 2016 earliest should one even be greenlit. I would prefer late July because the rest of the summer would be a massive let down. But doing a Hulk sequel and Avengers the same year is almost impossible. Unless Ant-Man is scrapped, again. Last edited by AvengeME; 08-08-2012 at 09:23 AM. |

I think if November works for Marvel with Thor, they should start using early November as an alternate date. Maybe have Phase III hit the ground running with a November Black Panther movie, followed by a May 2016 Doctor Strange film and a July Thor sequel. |

Whedon would be done with the film before his exclusive deal was up, and so Marvel and Disney can release Avengers 2 any time during the summer -- be it May, June, July or even August. I think mid-July 2015 is better than May -- kids are out of school, and the summer blockbuster season is almost over. Why not send it out with a bang with Avengers 2?

I don't think it would have made a difference. You would think Marvel wouldn't want to try and reinvent the wheel. I just figure if there is another property or character that needs exposure, you would typically utilize an early May date to kick start that film as opposed to a proven commodity.

If you're worried about releasing it outside of the early May tent pole, keep in mind that the mid-July weekend is traditionally a summer tent pole as well. Without Harry Potter and probably no Nolan movie in 2015, it's wide open for Avengers 2 to clean house. |

Marvel and Disney should pounce on either early May or mid-July 2015 dates soon, otherwise Fox will beat them to the punch a third time (see The Wolverine and the X-Men: First Class sequel nabbing mid-July dates). Or WB will reclaim that spot for Superman or whatever.

Right now the biggest threat for Avengers (not really) would be a FF reboot from Fox July 2015. I don't think DC will play a factor. Eventually WB just has to realize they do not have Potter or Nolan to fall back on for another decade and they need to reinvent themselves. Marvel will probably be in the same boat once the genre sees its better days.
But Marvel doesn't have huge properties outside of that. They wouldn't even chance Cap and Thor sequels in a prime summer window or holiday weekend. So outside of another Hulk movie, none of their properties have proven they will be able to carry a major summer release. Note how Spiderman and X-Men have secured "more lucrative" summer windows while Thor/Cap steer clear with Fall/Spring releases. I totally understand Disney's logic with that. Maybe they have plans for PotC 5 or whatever else is under Mickey's umbrella for 2014 and beyond. Last edited by AvengeME; 08-08-2012 at 05:26 PM. |

And because Joss' contract is up at the end of June 2015. You want to release *his* movie a month later, when he's no longer contractually obligated to promote it....? ![]() ![]() ![]() Quote:
![]() The FF reboot won't even be a threat to a freakin' Spider-Ham movie. It's a reboot of a failed franchise that nobody in the GA gave a crap about the first two times....what makes you think they're suddenly going to be interested in seeing Fox try to "get it right" this time....?

Besides, when Lionsgate released Cabin in the Woods this past April, Whedon went and did press promotions for it. He was no longer contractually obligated to do it (since it was finished 2 years ago), and yet he did it. We don't know the details of his exclusive contract, but I'm pretty sure he's contractually obligated to promote TA2 no matter what.
