It's like they didnt have tremendous faith in begins at the time, especially after what B&R caused. Once they saw the reactions and the DvD sales afterwards tho, they changed their tune with TDK. They threw everything and the kitchen sink at TDK's marketing ( Of course, it had some help in other areas as well) Still, I just hope with nolan's name attached, they show the same care with marketing MOS that they did with TDK and rises.

It's now showing up on car forums, junk emails, and MacDonald's video menus.

I just saw the Comicon footage.......wow....as a big Marvel Fan I have to say this blew me away. I knew it would with Nolan/Snyder/Zimmer on the film.
I really hope Supes does well next year. I think it will if what I saw comes out as some trailers soon!

Really? Cause you might wanna check your numbers. Superman Returns has made more money than Captain America. Plus Man Of Steel will have much more star power to bring fans in, Nolan's name is attached to the film, and Snyder is known for his visuals. This film will be light years ahead of any other Superman movie. The only thing that would hurt it would be the story/script. And comparing Superman to Iron Man is off base. RDJ made Iron Man cool again, but IM2 was not good at all and 3 is still up in the air.

Supes has got an uphill battle coming in because he has yet to establish himself as a heavy-hitter in movies. he probably will and should with MOS, but until that happens, his name doesn't give him more credibility than heroes like Batman and any of the Avengers who've already earned their popularity. It has to respect that and put in the effort to re-establish itself, instead of banking on veteran status...which is what your aforementioned SR did, and look how that ended up.

Frankly, this is probably the best situation that a Supes movie could ask for, because the challenge is so great. It'll hopefully force them not to rest on his laurels or assume he has some sort of entitlement. They need to treat it as rookie year all over again and earn a spot in the lineup.

I would have mentioned SM but even though ASM isnt a bust its nowhere near what the first 3 did. Not even ASM could out perform SM3 and thats real bad

I see where you are coming from. My only gripe was you compared him to CA and said he wasnt even in CA league. CA and Thor were watched by die hard fans and people interested in seeing where it would link with Avengers. Other than that IM has been carrying Marvel. Superman has way more relevance than Thor and CA. I think fans and people who have moved on from Superman are tired of him not being done justice. The cartoons and animated movies are awesome with Superman but the movies ever since S2 have been weak like you said. I think Smallville kept people interested and even brought new fans and old fans back. Love or Hate Smallville, they did things movie directors never did. they introduced way more villains, major DC comic characters, and tried to give a good backstory to Clark becoming Superman. I think him and Lex being friends and the path to hate made more sense as to why they hate each other so much in the Comics. |

There's always going to be competition at any time of year...and competition is never going to be what decidedly gives a good film bad movie numbers and reaction, or vice versa. SR's issues were solely with SR, and MOS's fate ultimately lies with how it is as a movie. Who knows...maybe Superman will one day be considered competition that some other film would be wary of, instead of always looking over its own shoulder.

TASM will reach 700 mil in a few days, and it will get around 750 mil worldwide in a month, not bad for a fourth movie on the character.

Superman was never done justice in the movies since Superman II. SR was just a failure and final nail in the coffin of the Donnerverse when it comes to cinematic experience for the present public. Thank god.
MOS is going to do fine and is going to make all the comic book movies next year look like Batman & Robin in comparison. |

MOS needs to concern itself with doing movies and its budget justice...doing Superman's legacy and what not justice is gravy.

only time will tell if people will be willing to accept this take of Superman, and it's too early to make grandiose claims on how this movie will make other movies look like in comparison... Superman is a fragile franchise, and everyone has a different take on the character. The only way this movie will succeed is if it is able to appeal to the general audience...
as of today, Superman doesn't generate that much of an audience because of Superman's inability to relate to people today and poor choices in story and directors... does MOS have a chance? sure, it does. is it an inevitability? no, it's not. again, only time will tell. |

One of my fears for MoS is that Snyder isn't known for having light moments in his films to balance all the seriousness. One thing that films like Iron Man, Avengers, and Spiderman do is that they don't take themselves too seriously. Also these shaky cam shots are a bit worrying. Are they going for a look like The Hunger Games?

I just watched Last Temptation of Christ again. It's plot would make a great skeleton for a Superman film.
