Wasn't there a rumour Marvel were looking to get Val Kilmer to be the next Coulson or something, popping up in all the Phase 2 movies?

Yeah but the surce is suspect. Some of his rock solid info like Execitioner and Enchantress as Thor 2 baddies, have be proven suspect. With that said, KIlmer could have played that role well, especially having the previous Kiss Kiss Bang Bang expierence.

A guy who looks like the Dude? That would be Obi Stane

Well he only looked like the Dude in IM1 because he was played by Jeff Bridges (but that would mean every character Bridges plays looks like that then), and he certainly didn't help out Stark, unless by helping Doc Holiday means trying to kill him and steal his company.

Stane certainly didn't look like the Dude in the comics, which is why it wouldn't have rung a bell. And he's already been used in IM1, so why would we go back there with Kilmer, who really doesn't seem anything like Stane, not in personality or physical appearance (since Stane was never fat).

Random thought: In TA, Fury says "There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people". His wording suggests that it wasn't necessarily originally his idea. If they did go the route of setting Pym in an earlier time, what if he's the one who suggests this idea to Fury. Then Pym gets to be a sort of honorary founding member. Granted, Fury would be pretty young if it were set in the 60's (early 20's at best), so it might not work.

Well, unless I'm mistaken, Fury doesn't age in the comics.

At least, he ages very slowly.

I could be wrong though.

If Ant-Man was to be set in the 60's, you could have Pym come up with the idea of the initiative with Howard Stark (didn't John Slattery express interest in returning as the middle-aged Stark?) and an ageless Nick Fury.

I like the idea of a proto-Avengers Initiative, but you start getting into the issue of why people in the modern era (like, say, Tony Stark) have never heard of these guys. Remember, Fury chides Tony: "You think you're the only one?" Well, to be perfectly fair.....yeah.

If there *was* a proto-Avengers, it would have to have been top secret. The only superhero that *seems* to be known prior to IM is Cap, and maybe the original Human Torch.

Still, an MCU version of, say, the Invaders or something could be cool. Watchmen-esque.

Well I would agree that a top-secret, Cold War era version of The Avengers could certainly be interesting.

There'd really be no reason for Tony to know of them. I doubt his father would openly talk to him about it, as I got the impression that they weren't overly close to one another in Iron Man 2.

If they wanted to update the Cold War Ant-Man stuff to war on terror like they have with other marvel characters they could have Pym be a military research scientist and his shrinking powers enable him to go behind enemy lines infiltrating their base planting bugs, trackers or stealing information.

Or, he could just be like Eric O'Grady and sneak into the women's locker rooms and showers.

So um. This editorial. I havent laughed this hard since I was a little girl. Talks about changing Ant-Man's name to Puny-Man, goes on a long rant about a homeless man with an ant vendetta, and a twist at the end about a rogue keyboard vandal.

My face when I read it:

Yes, like Black Widow, he doesn't age.

That'd be so fantastic, especially to hold us over until the IM3 trailer or something. I want to prove to people I know that Ant-Man can be cool on film.

Marvel executive Victoria Alonso confirms what Simon Pegg and Co- President of Marvel Studios and Executive Producer Louis D’Esposito said that Ant-Man will be Edgars next movie after he finishes shooting The Worlds End.
Quote:
Alonso reassured fans that Edgar Wright will direct, which is something we already knew. He'll most likely begin on Ant-Man once he finishes his "Blood and Ice Cream" trilogy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. It began when the trio worked on Shaun of the Dead, then Hot Fuzz and will conclude with The World's End.
