Default Guardians of the Galaxy Recommended Reading?

I just set up the same thread in the Ant-Man forum but figured it would be good here too.

What Guardians of the Galaxy reads are worthwhile?

I've read #1 and it was an excellent introduction to the team. I could totally see them using a lot of elements from that one issue alone. I also starting reading The Thanos Imperative and so far it is an outstanding read! This is truly epic space opera story telling ala Star Wars.

After reading what I have so far: The Church of the Universal Truth needs to be the villains in the first film. Perhaps Thanos could operate as a faux ally while he schemes his way to an all dead universe?

You can't go wrong with the Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning series. It's wonderful! I'm not usually into huge cosmic stories but they just did it so well!

I'd go back to the first Annihilation and work my way up from there. All those events.

I'd recommend this tpb, it's really awesome. Written by the great duo DnA, and great art from Paul Pelletier.
Here's the cover:

Here's the plot summary:
Quote:
Launching out of ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST, Marvel's sci-fi heroes unite to protect the cosmos! Back-to-back Annihilation wars have weakened the boundaries of our universe. Dark gods and monsters are seeping through the cracks, reigning horror upon those still reeling from the recent calamities. In the face of terror, who stands to defend a desperate universe? Star-Lord and his squad of butt-kickers - the modern day Guardians of the Galaxy! You've heard that ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST rocks - the guy at the comic shop keeps telling you to try NOVA - well, now's your chance to experience the glory that writers Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning and artist Paul Pelletier can unleash! All this plus a wise-cracking raccoon and a telepathic dog! C'mon, people, time to lock and load!

Collecting GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #1-6.
You should also check out the first Annihilation series, and as Darthphere said go from there, because all those cosmic events are really good. Check this tpb out though if you'd like to dive into the modern GOTG.

Everything from the modern, DnA version of the team is worth it. Pure comics joy.

I'd read the following:

Thanos #1-12
Nova #1-37
Guardians of the Galaxy #1-25
Annihilation
Annihilation: Conquest
War of Kings
Realm of Kings
Thanos Imperative

If you're curious about past stuff, Adam Warlock, Gamora, Drax and Moondragon were all a part of the Infinity Watch.

I have GOTG #5-9 and #21 . I also have Thanos #4 and 5. I get them in single issues (expensive and hard to find, it can become) so I have to locate them first. At least it wasn't hard to locate Winter Soldier isssues 1-8 lol.

ebay is probably your best shot at getting all of these. Might want to try Midtowncomics.com.

There were also a few trades if I recall correctly that dealt with the pre-Guardians adventures of certain Guardians.

If you want to see how Pete meets Rocky n Groot. You'd like to read, "Annihilation: Conquest - Starlord." It's 4 issues long and leads into the Annihilation: Conquest event. It's because of the events of Annihilation and Annihilation: Conquest, Pete forms the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The best place to buy all these issues are at the Marvel.com Digital Comic Store or if you have a smart device, you can download the Marvel App and read the issues through there.

I think I read somewhere a while back that Groot wasn't in some of the modern issues. Is he in this LEGACY Volume?

He's regrowing during it, so he just sits in his pot and is watered. He's fully regrown by the second trade
