A Legend of Korra animated movie may be a possibility

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2012/08/1...orra-the-movie

Quote:
Big news, Avatar fans! Thanks to Paramount Animation, we may soon be getting a Legend of Korra movie.
Paramount has remained pretty quiet since the studio's animation division was launched last summer, announcing little else than a sequel to The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. However, now that DreamWorks is in talks to move to another studio, Paramount has recently ramped up its animation plans by hiring seven writers to tackle projects, some of which Mary Parent and J.J. Abrams will oversee. What's more, Paramount chief Brad Grey has been tasked with hitting up its sister division Nickelodeon for animated properties including The Legend of Korra, Dora the Explorer and Monkey Quest.

According to Variety, Paramount has stated that they want to keep budgets around $100 million or less, similar to features like Despicable Me and the latest installment of Ice Age.
Of course, the most exciting prospect here for many of us is a Korra movie, which would mark Nick's second attempt at bringing its Avatar franchise to the big screen. M. Night Shyamalan's live-action film The Last Airbender was widely disdained by critics and fans alike, so a shift towards animated features that continue the TV series makes sense.

That's all very interesting. As long as Michael and Bryan are heavily involved in the creative process and are ok with this then I say go for it, if not then kill the animated movie idea right now.

I dont see why they would ruin a good thing by changing everything up.

Should the movie be tied into the show's continuity or work as a standalone?

Definitely. And I also agree with the voice cast. Gotta keep them all, I think.

Hopefully, if this does get off the ground, they don't do CGI animation, either.

Yeah, like spongebob and the simpsons did they need to keep the style of animation, and keep everything from the original show involved.

Both. Needs to be good enough to stand on its own legs for new audiences but have enough going on to tie into the show for people who watch it.

That, it should take place in between seasons or after the show if it's released after the show ends, but have its oun story and be easy for people that didn't watch the show to understand.

The idea alone of a hand-drawn Legend of Korra film with a $100 million budget gets me excited.

The character designs and animation from the show with the fluidity of a traditionally animated Disney film, along with it's mature themes, great character development and great storytelling? Hell yes.

If done right, this could possibly rival some of Disney's best work.

Throw in a couple of song numbers and it's the 90's all over again.

If done right do you think a live action Avatar: The Legend Of Korra movie could work? And yes I know The Last Airbender:sucked. That's why I said if done right.

No, but the thone is sometimes similar, it also had a lot of storylines to pull off in a limited time, and both villains started a revolution using the the control as the motivation and took over the city while doing so, while the heroes were now the ones being hunted down. That's why

Yeah, I like the idea of it being in continuity and being after the three seasons. Then it could be like a "fourth season" with a new fresh story in movie format without sacrificing what has happened in the past. Throw in 1 or 2 new characters and a badass new villain worthy of a movie and boom, success!

Shoot, why wait? Have it take place between Book 2 and 3. I mean we're not entirely sure that Korra will be limited to just three seasons anyway.

tbh, I don't really care when we get a movie as long we get one, period.

Well not to rain on everyone's parade but you guys do realize that Nick's record with big budget animated movies is pretty mediocre as compared to their more established rival with the Mouse. Rugrats, Wild Thornberries, Spongebob...these were shows that appealed to ages 6 and up and the reason why they did so well is essentially because for every kid screaming to watch the movie, mommy and/or daddy need to pay for a ticket too.

Legend of Korra is to me is pretty damn niche. Unless they are trying to appeal to the Teen Book reader crowd like Twilight fans or Hunger Games fans who are for the most part....female...they are going to have a hard time selling it without a couple of really marketable faces as guest stars. Not to say the movie if ever made would flop but for they budget they plan to put in, they might not get the returns they desire.

Also in the tradition of animated movies based on a TV series i.e. in Anime, I'm never sure how well they do. Look at my Avvie. Do you think Awakening of the Trailblazer did well? Sadly no.
