Default n00b here, where to start?

How's it going guys? I grew up with Batman TAS and the movies, but I really would like to read the comics regularly now that TDKR is out and my love for Batman is there.

Thing is, I don't know where to start. Any ideas on a good point of origin at this time?

All-Star Batman

JK. JK.

But really, you thinking of starting the monthly issues, or starting with trades first? The New 52 is pretty easy to get into with minimal backstory research

If just some basic milestones to read:

Year One
Long Halloween & Dark Victory
A Death in the Family
A Lonely Place of Dying
Knightfall saga
Batman & Son

The Dark Knight Returns, Year One, Earth One, Long Halloween/Dark Victory, Knightfall (the first two parts of Knightfall are all you need really), Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, Killing Joke, Gotham Noir.

The first thing you should read is strange apparitions, that will make you appreciate the mentioned classics even more.

Go to 'Batman timeline'.

Just start at the beginning!

^It's the opposite. Marvel have been consistent throughout there history, DC have had many, many reboots of varying degrees.

I'd start at the beginning. Year One. I'd also recommend The Dark Knight and Batman Incorporated monthly comic books. Here's a little chronology of the Batman Trade Paperbacks. http://www.empireonline.com/forum/tm.asp?m=2763624. You're welcome.

All-Star Batman because he's the goddamn Batman and also try reading All-Star Superman because it's a goodie.

And DC just went through their most major reboot yet, with pretty much Batman's entire history being wiped away or altered greatly.

That said, it's a great time to jump onto the monthly books for that very reason.
