A Magneto (for lack of a better example) type would be the right direction.

Honestly, I'll be shocked if they don't play the angle of Zod tempting Kal-El. From everything I've gleaned, this is a movie about finding your place in the world. What better way to create dramatic tension than to have Zod hammer Superman psychologically? This is the one being who can give him all the answers, who remembers Krypton, who actually knew his father. He has the inside track on all the answers he seeks. It'd be folly not to play up that angle and I'd put money down on them hitting those notes.

Good point. However, there are so many angles just waiting to be explored in MOS, that even if we get half I'll still be surprised.

So does Zod have a beard? He appeared to have a goatee in the SDCC footage.

Didn't some set pics show him sporting chin hair?

Watching Take Shelter, within this part alone he's shown great range. The most important aspect of all: He's not all creepy/insane/intense. If the team behind MoS have chosen to write him as sympathetic, he has shown he can be naturally likeable and bring warmth to a role. We're (un)believably lucky to get him.

Yeah, even on Boardwalk Empire where he comes across as creepy, he still has that underlining decency and likeability. It'll be great seeing him in the more quiet moments of the film.

I'm curious if they'll give Zod another layer in the form of how his relationship with Faora is portrayed since in the comics they're married, and granted, while marriage by no means "softens" him up, it still adds something different that a guy like him could have a wife and how the dynamics in his scenes with her would function like.

I hope they actually make her softer than in the comics, I mean she did try to murder her own child. *shudder*

On another note, could anyone buy from what we've seen of Zod that he's supposed to be MUCH older than Superman in this film? From what little we've seen, he's not presented in being that much more older than the guy..

Is he supposed to be older in the movie itself, though? From what I've seen their age difference reflects that of the actors.
I also hope that Zod and Faora are married (and I'm inclined to believe they will be). I want him to have someone to care for, but not in a typical underwritten villain-f**ks-someone-who-tries-to-pass-to-the-audience-for-a-girlfriend-then-hero-kills-her-and-suddenly-it's-all-personal-for-the-villain fashion. See Die Hard 4, Timothy Olyphant and Maggie Q's characters.

Presumably he's been stuck in the Phantom Zone right?

Well, unless he was stuck in the PZ for the period after Krypton was exploded towards his arrival on Earth, which could be used as a reason for why he never aged during those years....I would think that he'd be presented as much older than Clark since he's supposed to have been old enough to have fought Jor-el in hand to hand combat on Krypton.

They'll have to go the PZ route, it's the most reoccurring element across Zod's many origins.

Indeed..though I wonder on how they'll fit in that he has access to kryptonian technology, let alone a spaceship from what we've heard.

I'm just curious as to when we will get our first official look at Michael Shannon as Zod.
TDKR released first image of Hardy as Bane in May of 2011. 14 months before release. Here we are 10 months out with nothing.

They couldn't release a picture of zod that soon like they did with bane because zod suit is cgi. It's complicated because he will wear 2 suits in this movie and i'm sure they wanna release the cgi suit since that's the one he'll probably be wearing for most of the movie. The problem is they might not be completely done with it yet. That's why they didn't show him fully in the comic con trailer.

Give it up for Michael Shannon, please. Check out the new trailer for The Iceman. Cant link to it here, because of the language.
But he's so fine. I really hope he wont go too far over the top. His discrete style is what makes him him.

Hell, even in Premium Rush he was the high point. That scene where he manhandles Jamie Chung, he got Zod psychotic.

Seems doubtful. I think they'll go with something a bit more "realistic".

I don't know why the phantom zone doesn't seem "realistic" in a Superman movie, but either way...didn't Shannon confirm the phantom zone already? He just said it will be different than the previous versions.
