I think the people that saw the Judge Dredd movie with Stallone may overrate this one because of how putrid the first one was, but it will still probably be a great movie.

I don't see whats so great looking about the film. Looks like any other mid budget sci fi In September dump job. And they really just started advertising a month out so obviously the studio has no faith in it what-so-ever. Unless I'm super bored or just want to compare it to the the guilty pleasure Stallone version I will be waiting for DVD.

I say it's a good start for a low budget CBM. The franchise went into hibernation for nearly 20 years. I'm not harboring high expectations, but I do feel as if this film will at least surpass TASM.

Not being a reader of Dredd comics, and only seeing the Stallone film of Dredd... This looks really awesome.

Where would one begin in reading Judge Dredd comics.

Just to throw it out there; somebody should go back and recut the Stallone Dredd film. One thing to change: in the comics, Dredd's face is never seen, and even with his helmet off, the face is either cover in something (like bandages) or censored. Someone should recut it and have Stallone's face covered up by a censored bar.

Oh and remove Schneider. Then again, that should be a given.

^If they re-cut all of that the film would last 15 mins at most lol. Its a damn shame they botched that movie, Stallone at the time was perfect for the role, and a trilogy of JD movies with him would have been great had they treated it properly.

I am really looking forward to the new movie though, its getting some great reviews, so lets hope that helps the movie do well and we get a good few Dredd movies following it.

I think trepidation on the part of the studio is more because of the flick's hard R rating, low-ish budget, and the character not being that well known than quality of the film itself. Afterall, Battleship had a huge advertising campaign and a strong release date and I don't think for one second it was because anyone at the studio thought it was great.

I think Dredd fans will like it. This isn't a mind-blowing movie but it's a fun, bloody action romp that's evocative of like classic John Carpenter meets a British indy flick.

I see it as a good reintroduction of Dredd to the cinema. It's a light introduction it doesn't get deep into the mythology of Dredd and Mega City 1 and the Judges. The movie is sort of dipping the toe into the world which I understand. Hopefully people will like this and they can dive right in with the sequel and show things like the mutants and the Dark Judges. I like that mutants are at least referenced in the movie so they exist in this world. But I figured going right into the whole mutant issue in this movie would've been a bit too much.

The other thing I like about it is that they don't bog it down with lots of obligatory origin BS. It gives you a nice sequence setting up Mega City One and Judge Dredd and just goes from there.

^Sounds like a perfect re-introduction to me, I'm glad we are getting a pretty simple movie at first that just touches on this world without giving too much, I think its the best way to do it personally.

If its successful, we will then hopefully have another 2 or 3 movies to get into other stuff.
