Slightly off topic, but was wondering...
The other day a co-worker called a guy and I whom I deliver packages with batman and robin who is batman and who is robin. He's older than me so I'm naturally robin. But, still instantly said robin because of the John Blake portrayal like he was cooler to be than Batman lol. Years prior I would have said Batman, now I said Robin with pride lol. Has anyone else found themselves starting to think Robin is cooler than Batman too? |

Blake isn't even the same robin. His real name is Robin, and he will become batman. It does make the name Robin a cooler name for a dude than before, though, I always thought it was a really girly name beforehand

Blake is and always will be Robin. He is nolans Robin. Maybe a little different from tradition but that is how nolan will be remembered.
I don't like how people are saying that he isn't Robin, though. He is - only different. |

yeah. He played the robin role during the movie and at the end it was bassically a reveal of him stepping into the nightwing/batman beyond role.

I'm sure people said "No Dick Grayson, No Robin" when Jason Todd showed up. I'm sure people said "No Dick Grayson, No Jason Todd, No Robin" when Tim Drake showed up.
I'm sure... You know where this is going.

It just seems apparent all the way through the movie. For example the way he threw away his gun, it looked like just part of the scene at the time but if it was just that - why would they bother, in a Batman movie? I just feel that it is nolan telling his story on how anyone can be the Batman. Levitt said similar himself. Still, the signs of a Batman Beyond project are there to tease us. I just don't feel that Warner could sell a Beyond movie at this point. There aren't enough people that know who he is. Most kids will just ask for Batman and see it as a "fake". |

I can't believe some people in here actually think John Blake becomes Robin and not Batman.

You could say he's nolans interpretation of robin, but he's really just robin ino. Hes robin... without him being robin. The only connection is the name and the role of batmans prodigy. IMO he's a way better version of the character, but it's so far from the roots, I just wouldn't compare him much to the robin from the comics.

I can't believe your mind only allows you to see him becoming Batman.

No. The point is for him to carry on the symbol. He may use the bat suit to do this, but he may not. He can choose whatever he wants. He doesnt have to dress up like a Bat. Some people here still dont get it.
Im not having this argument again lol. I suggest reading the last part of this thread (all the pages in the '30s') . He could become Batman eventually, but he doesnt have to. He can easily become his own symbol, and quite frankly it doesnt make sense that he would be Batman, at least for a very long time.

Regardless, he wouldn't be Robin. That's his name. That's why the comics don't have Bruceman, NightDick, Red Jason, Tim Robin, and BatBarbara.

He is not forced to be dress like Batman if he doesnt want to. The symbol can go on through a different but somewhat similar identity, which is why people like to say "Nightwing" or Robin. Just because his name is Robin doesnt mean he cant use it. people dont know his real name and Bruce used the theme of bats because he had a personal connection to them. Blake doesnt. He can find his own way while carrying Bruces symbol. There are a lot of options and Nolan specifically didnt choose to end the movie on a shot where Robin Blake rises to a new Bat-suit OR rises to a Robin/Nightwing suit...for a reason. Because the point isnt "oh he's the new Batman". The point is "he's the successor". Which could be anything. He even has the option of not choosing ANY identity. That's why i suggest reading those pages from the last thread because we all had this argument. After this post, i dont really feel like getting into it again. Just irritates me when people think it's 100 % confirmed that he's the new Batman and that he cant be anyone else. That's silly. Because i never said he couldnt be Batman, eventually. It's open.

A symbol of hope, something elemental, something terrifying. You answered your own question. The bat signal, the bat 'symbol' can still be used even if Blake is Nightwing, etc. The actual cowl doesnt HAVE to be used to achieve this goal. Fear into criminals, hope on the streets, thats it.
He used the bat because he had a connection with it. Maybe blake uses something that has a connection to his past. Yeah, he could be Batman years down the line, but not for a very long time because ppl think he's dead and it would lose meaning to run out as the Batman right after that. it would have to be several years later. He also needs training to be him. That's why people like the idea of Nightwing because he can do things his own way. Blake says in the movie he doesnt want to hide himself as much. I didnt mean the exact suit either. But it seems like ur saying he has to dress as Batman one way or the other. Like Batman Beyond, a new suit or something. But the symbol of the bat can be on his chest, but with a Nightwing identity lets say...and Gordon still throws up the signal in the sky to scare off criminals. My old argument was also that, if people see a new Batman, new suit, theyll know it's a different guy cuz Batman died and they might not like it which spits all over the symbol. It could defeat the purpose. They may look at him as an imposter. But if he is his own identity, and isnt shy about it, but uses the bats as a theme, it could make people think "Here's another guy, a successor, a man inspired by the Batmans views, lets get behind him. He's carrying on the legacy". Of course there's a way to do this with a different bat-suit but years down the line i think. Gotham needs some time after Batmans death. Not just a few years either. I think it would help the transition if he was Nightwing/Robin for quite a while, let the ppl get behind him...then he has doubts. Maybe a new threat comes into play, bigger than what he can handle because he has no training, and the people want him to be Batman. Or maybe 1other person like Gordon or something, and he doesnt think he has what it takes. He doesnt want to spit on that statue so to speak, but then he finds inspiration and becomes Batman. This could work. I just find it more logical for him to become something else either alltogether, or for a while until the people are begging for a new Batman.
