It took me forever to find a song that I think matches the thought process of UDC Lex Luthor (funnily enough, after I dropped him to play Vandal Savage). Now that Dick Grayson isn't out to kill Batman, he's loaded down with even more issues of guilt (blaming himself for leaving Bruce weak enough for Bane to cripple him), anger at letting Tony Zucco get away with his father's murder, his complicated relationship with Raven, and the unwanted responsibilities of being a leader as the Teen Titans are coming together. So naturally, he needs some appropriately angsty music.

I think the Peter Gabriel cover is absolutely perfect for UDC Batman, too (though that may be because of the "Batman Complex" trailer where they imply that Bruce Wayne is insane, and MB's Batman is definitely toeing the line):

The instrument has a very otherworldly sound to it, the kind of thing you'd expect to see humanoid hippie-type aliens playing. And the tone of the song has that sort of wide-eyed, uncertain but excited quality that I see in Kori. I wish they had a studio version of this song.

Going off of Carnage's run, I see Changeling as somebody who really has to force himself to put on a happy face, to try and gloss over the traumatic experiences he's had since his creation. That's why I picked a song that sounds both happy and sad at the same time. As a shape-shifting clone of Gar Logan, UDC's Changeling could be the ultimate Pinocchio complex: he can be anything he wants, except a real boy.

The song fits because Vic Sage is a man who's been forced to compactualise life into a way that completely makes sense to him in order to survive. He grew up on the bottom rung of a city so corrupt it makes Gotham look like Pee-wee's Playhouse. As a result he scrapped and worked his way to carve out a pretty good life for himself, but became an "old bastard" - he acts like he has all of the answers, is never short of an opinion and very willing to stuff it in your face. Qualities which saw him acheive the pinnacle of success he was able to reach in even gaining his own TV show.

While he's carved out this life for himself, and his perspective on the world has helped him rise on the surface with his career, it's separated him a lot from people, and therefore the world which he feels he understands.

Vic Sage in his day-to-day life has gone around his natural driving force, to continue to pose the question. But there's another side to him, a faceless side, which does just that and attempts to restore balance within.

This piece is absolutely perfect for Clark Kent's early years. Absolutely beautiful, but just a little sad as well. Clark grows up in an idyllic town, raised by a loving family and surrounded by good friends. As he grows, he learns he can do incredible things.......but he can't share them with anyone. I picture Clark flying through the clouds, elated from the ecstasy of flight, his elation mixed with pangs of loneliness.

Say what you will about Prometheus and its convoluted script and questionable characters, you can't deny it's got a hell of a soundtrack. This one in particular I think is a great, otherworldly but immense song for when Clark meets the virtual 'ghosts' of Jor-El and Lara, who show him his first glimpses of the lost world of Krypton, and clue Kal-El in on his eventual destiny. It's haunting, and at points kind of scary, like I'm sure it would be to find out that you're an alien destined to carry the fate of a whole world.

Yeah, it's a viral commercial and not an actual song, but when I start thinking of just how Lex Luthor would influence not only the city of Metropolis but the world at large, I always come back to this. It's a world that's both sleek and bleak, one where fabulous technology is available to everyone, if you don't mind the immense corruption and human suffering caused in order to create it.

Regular, non-super characters are always kinda hard to find songs for, but I think Lois needs one since she's an integral part of the Superman mythos, and her relationship with Clark/Superman helps define both of them (despite what DiDio and company say these days). So I wanted to find a song that kinda captured Lois's essence, a compassionate (if outwardly cynical) woman trying to do her part in a fast-paced technology-driven world.

So with all the pieces in place and people genuinely in danger, it's time for Clark to put on the costume and get to work. This song is big, genuinely epic and full of portent, like how I imagine it would be for the Man of Steel to make his appearance to the world by blasting through the sky at hypersonic speeds trying to stop a crashing spaceship that could kill millions.

In the aftermath of the Legion of Doom and their war with the Justice League, Lex Luthor has revealed grand designs for new self-sustained cities in the sky, whole new societies where everyone is a superhuman. It's a promise of a brand new world, full of excitement and uncertainty, and this song really encapsulates that. Only Luthor knows what he and Brainiac really have in store for the people who come to live in Lexor City, but for now, they're offering tickets to heaven, and this is the song to go with it.

First off, if you haven't at least given Mastodon a try, you should be ashamed of yourself, because they're the best goddamn band I've heard in years. Secondly, this song I think fits Dick Grayson's state of mind at the end of Season 3 perfectly. He's been through quite a bit this season, gained new allies with the Titans, only to find out that his feelings for Raven couldn't be returned, leaving him even more alone in a way. And without Batman to guide him, he's still basically lashing out aimlessly into Gotham, more resolute than ever but without a real goal or direction.
