You're right, this is almost exactly how the Chris Evans casting went. A few others were rumored, but as soon as his name was mentioned, it just made sense. As much as I like many of the other actresses who've been mentioned(Kendrick, Brie, Palmer), Winstead as Sharon Carter would just be inspired casting... She's the perfect choice for the character! She's drop dead gorgeous(and looks like she could be related to Atwell's character), she's an amazing actress(with an extremely wide range), and the best part... she looks like she could convincingly play Sharon as an experienced badass S.H.E.I.L.D agent! I always kinda' wanted to see her in the role, but never thought it would happen. I just hope to God that it DOES end up happening!

I don't think the multi-picture deal will be a huge issue as I think Sharon will most likely only be confined to the Captain America and Avengers films.

Well not bad casting with MEW, but I feel that she should play a more leading lady - ie an actual superpowered comic character than just someone's love interest. She would work for a number of superheroines. We keep seeing love interests or agents cast but no superpowered female.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead was my #1 choice for Janet Van Dyne. I'm happy to see her in a MCU role, just would've preferred Jan.

I wouldn't mind seeing her as a blonde, but I have a feeling that Sharon might be a brunette in the film. I think they'll probably play around with the look and see which hair color looks the best.

As one of those vocal 'she's too young' people, I would that MEW puts me at ease. I've only seen her in Death Proof and Scott Pilgrim, neither of which build her up in my estimation, but if she is cast, I'd probably be cool with it.

That said, go Jessica Brown Findlay.

I don't get it, all the other websites are running the stories of Mary being the frontrunner for the role.....but there is no mention of this news on the front page of superherohype.com

Sharon Carter would probably be exclusive to Cap's solo franchise, but not part of the Avenger franchise.

I'd be okay with MEW as Carter, too, but I'm inclined to agree with the poster above who suggested you might be her agent.

She kinda talked about a multi-pic deal in a recent interview while promoting Smashed:

I was just remembering --- this would be a reunion of sorts for MEW and Chris Evans. He was one of her Exes in Scott Pilgrim. So there's probably a comfort zone there for both of them, and hopefully chemistry as well.

And I'd prefer Sharon to be a brunette now....MEW is just too hot with the dark hair. I don't think she'd look right as a blonde.

Agreed. Just because Sharon was blonde in the comics doesn't mean that she has to be a blonde in the movies. It's not like her hair color is important to the plot, so they should just go with whatever looks best on the the actress, which in MEW's case would be brown.

Peggy was also a blonde in the comics yet in the film adaptation "The First Avenger" Hayley didn't dye her hair she keep as a luscious brunette and it worked out prefect. so MEW can stay a brunette as well just like her aunt.

I know she's been a fan-favorite for Mary Jane Watson for what seems like an eternity, but I like THIS potential casting much better. MEW would be a great Sharon Carter. I also think she's a better option than the others we've heard so far (even though I did like them). Ironic that we'd be getting this news the same week someone else was finally offered the role of the new MJ.
