1. The settings of every scene/act are there to assist in the story in a big way. Banner in a shack in Kolkata. Stark in his penthouse. Cap in his gym hitting a punching bag. Loki and Thor having that argument on the mountaintop. The helicarrier, the battle taking place in NY...I can't explain it well but the way each scene/act is set I am reminded of a play. 2. The dialogue in the movie isn't really there to drive the plot forward, it's there to reveal the personalities of the characters. Word is you can find the cube Is that the only word on me? Only word I care about. This exchange really is only in the movie to show what type of people Cap and Banner are. It doesn't really add anything to the plot. And the movie is filled with these types of moments, more than any movie I have seen recently. 3. It's very self-referential. Loki makes fun of the Hulk the whole movie and then gets his stuff kicked in by him at the end of the movie. The sceptre was what allowed him to break up the avengers but then it also is what closed the portal, so it ended up hurting him in the end. Stuff like that occurs in the movie. Maybe I'm going a little crazy lol. But to me this whole movie was laid out like a play. It really doesn't surprise me that Whedon has said one of his biggest influences is Shakespeare. In terms of style, this story is incredibly Shakespearean, for the reasons I listed above. I mean, Joss Whedon is a playwright afterall, considering he wrote Dr. Horrible. |

What I didn't like about Avengers?
I didn't like how I missed the shawarma scene the first two times I saw Avengers. Finally had time to stay after the credits my third time. |

I loved this movie, and I watch the dvd to death every night before going to sleep! But I just can't get over how stupid Captain America looked in his all cloth costume. The original costume had layers, but sadly it's not just the costume, it's how dorky Cap comes off in the film. For one it seems like Ironman is calling the shots, delegating Cap to the role of the guy who just picks up after the other heroes. Second Cap seriously needs to fire his fight choreographer as I only got to see one darn flip in this whole film. The BlackWidow fight scenes far surpassed Cap's and I'm wondering if Captain America was a late write in as Joss "Punisher's a coward" Whedon struggled to meet deadlines. I don't know, but Cap was sorely underused here, and I would have gladly waited for the sequel to see Captain America given the proper justice he deserved. I also didn't like the absence of the other 2 founding members, Wasp and Pym. Hawkeye and Black-widow being portrayed as the founding members just doesn't sit well with me, maybe it's because I'm old.

I totally agree that Cap was lacking for action in a few scenes. The fight on the outside of the Helicarrier was pretty embarrassing. I think he got just about enough to do physically during the final battle, but I think Widow outshines him slightly. I don't really have a problem with that though...
I don't think Iron-man dominated Cap in the leadership department. I thought Cap got plenty of time to develop how he was the leader of the team. |

Cap is the tactical leader of the team during times of battle. Iron Man is like the CEO of The Avengers, publicity and fund raising and all that. :P I think Thor got the short end of the action stick.
REALLY!? I thought the scene where he was hurtling to his doom in that steel cage was epic "money owing nephew" stomping awesomeness!!!! |

To even put it in more geeky terms. Stark is Venkman/Egon, Cap is Egon/Ray.

I think maybe it could be accused of overdoing the fanwank, but otherwise I found it to be great and anything I could really complain about still fit within the tone and style of the movie.

The only thing that bothered me every time I saw the movie (way too many) since the first time, is the avengers being in "radio communication" during the whole movie, but non of'em wears an earpiece at any point (I paid real close attention, to make sure...)

LOL, I'm ashamed to say that I didn't notice that until I saw the "Honest Trailer".

*shrugs shoulders* I've said this before, I always figured they were wearing small earbuds that fit further into the ear/aren't very visible. See shows like Leverage, Person of Interest, The Closer, a variety of spy type shows/movies, etc... I mean, look at how small actual hearing aids have gotten for the hard of hearing or the elderly, it's not that hard to fathom, in my opinion, that an organization like SHIELD would have the latest in micro-communication technology. Besides, if they had a big clunky earpiece (even like what Fury or Coulson had), there's a greater chance of it falling out during the fight. An earbud that fits snugly in the ear canal is less likely to be dislodged.
