Telling people to watch better movies and finding their current moviegoing habits sad is film snobbery at it's worst. Plus it's annoying...especially when one touts their own opinion as if it's fact.

I'm eventually gonna stop posting here just because of posts like this.

I teach for a living. This is apathy. This "let them call the art-form at its best soft porn OR ELSE" mandate of yours is a repellent for anyone over the age of 30.

First of all, don't make promises you can't keep.

Secondly, you just don't get it. This is not about your age or the fact that you are a teacher. The problem you have is that whenever someone dares to not like what you think, you have to start going off on their moviewatching habits or telling them to watch better movies.

This is not your classroom. It's a message board with rules that even the teachers here must abide by. Those rules include showing respect towards the opinions of others, even those you disagree with.

Oh, yes it is. You're so used to moderating children that when you encounter an adult you feel compelled to lecture him endlessly on how he is not an adult here but rather just another child to moderate. This is why you have such a problem with my posts.

Not true. I've had dozens of discussions on here that don't lead to arguments. And again, there's nothing wrong with suggesting one broadens his cinematic horizons. I found out about Refn's PUSHER trilogy on a message board 6 years ago. These places are filled with knowledgeable individuals. Silencing them in favor of the "Black Swan is porn LOL!!!" crowd makes no sense at all & prolongues that misguided view of adult themes & sexuality in film that's so common in message boards about CBMs.

I didn't disrespect anyone. I suggested he stepped outside the box with his film choices. Again, to agree with the soft porn mentality is apathy. Its one thing to say you're against lesbianism & the thought of it is disgusting to you. Its another to dismiss the material as "soft porn" because you're so used to watching safe popcorn movies that the notion of women fornicating on a train in a film immediately means pornography to you.

I remember when I was younger having no interest at all in foreign films. The thought of subtitles just seemed annoying to me. My grandfather would always watch French and Spaniard films & would drag me to see them. Long story short, I actually prefer foreign films now. The choices that were being made in Europe were bolder. I started questioning why American studio pictures were so generic. Grandpa ruined Van Damme & Seagal for me. He made me trade Stallone for Almodovar. Sometimes you just need someone to suggest something new.

Hell, I think most guys on this board would support more lesbian sex in comic movies

the objections people have about this now-infamous train scene is that it's sexual assault bordering on rape.
People here do not want to see wolverine get THAT low.
We get it, he's beat down. But to watch him sit there while a woman is assaulted immediately makes him much less sympathetic to the audience.

Nobody objects to wolverine being more adult
Nobody objects to sexual themes and images in an adult wolverine film
But nobody wants to see him be complicit in a rape

Now, further, you have no idea what films anyone on here has seen or enjoyed,
so when you throw out things like "oh watch better movies", it comes off pretty damn snobby.
Like it or not, just admit it.

Now, Can we finally move this Thread beyond the discussions of Aronofsky's abandoned script?!?!

Project862006 was probably the only person happy here when Aronofsky walked.

He likes Joe Carnahan films & thought DRIVE was a bad movie. He'd also like for the theme song from the X-Men cartoon to feature in the films.

You're ignoring the rest of us who enjoy the movies youve mentioned, who enjoy adult themes in our films, and are still uncomfortable about the scene in question.

Though admittedly, from what you just said, the scene isn't as objectionable as it first seemed.
If we could all see the original script, a lot of this conversation might be moot
But the fact is, many here are not comfortable with what you initially described.

My two cents on the Aronofsky thing: He wasn't right for Wolverine. Purely my opinion, but I don't think he would have delivered the sort of Wolverine film I really want to see. I like Aronofsky, he's made some amazing films, but I don't think he would have done Wolverine properly. That said, I'm very excited for the Wolverine film we're gonna get. I have little doubt it's going to be leagues above and beyond the previous Wolverine films. Fingers crossed!

Do neither of you understand this discussion? People aren't objecting to a scene like that because of what it is, they are saying they don't think it's right for this movie. Out of all of the things they'd like to see in this movie, this scene isn't one of them.

Its the other way around.

Wolverine can't function in the PG-13 realm.

Maybe when he's sharing screentime with the X-Men, but not when he's on his own fighting Yakuza & The Hand.

Hell, even X2 got an R-rating originally because of the kitchen scene.

Wolverine is synonymous with blood, carnage and rage. Those are not PG-13 permitted themes.

wow where do i begin i have long advocated my hate to how soft wolverine was in x3 and specifically Origins and don't tell me i dont want to see wolverine done well when he is my fav. comic book character i want to see a darker mature wolverine film i just dont want to see molestation in the film and as seen by this thread neither does anyone else

and i love darren one of my fav directors and i was very excited when he was attached but guess what he left he is not directing anymore i moved on it seems you havent

That shot was 20 seconds long.

You think a 2-hour movie about a master killer dueling with Japan's underworld and ninja can function without blood & gore and remain within PG-13 confines?

The reason Origins failed was that Gavin Hood was instructed to keep things light. To make a kids movie.

Unlike Nolan's Batman, Wolverine kills. Nolan can push the envelope with PG-13 because his protagonist's #1 rule is not to kill. You don't have that liberty with Wolverine.
