I absolutely love that cover to #2. Young Thor just has this "bring it the blank on!". I need that in poster form yesterday.

'Kay, I'm over the Gorr = Desak thing and I'm now unabashedly excited for Aaron's run. He confirmed that his King Thor is Jurgens' King Thor and that he's got a Mangog story later in his run.

If anybody can make Thor what it was under Jurgens it would definitely be Aaron. I'd like to see Gillen get another crack at Thor someday. I think that guy has a million Thor stories up in his brain. There's definitely a 5 year run inside of that dude.

Probably. I don't think they wanted to chance a potentially long run on the main title on him back when he got the fill-in gig between JMS and Fraction, though. Maybe if he does well on Iron Man, he can jump over after Aaron's done.

4 page preview of Aaron's Thor: God of Thunder. Somebody should probably make a new thread for this right? I'll let one of you hardcore Thor-whore's decide.

Yeah I know - JIM is one of the best runs I have read. The creative team and Loki are the only reason I'll be picking up Young Avengers (admittedly pretty good reasons
)

Just read my first Thor graphic novel recently and found it quite good, mostly because it had the Silver Surfer and Galactus in it.
If you havent already guessed it was the Matt Fraction one were SS and Galactus battle Asgard for the tree seed which will sate Galactus's hunger forever. Was there a follow up GN to this?

It's not just you. Just about everyone around here hated Fraction's run.

Talk about anti-climatic. Thor kills Surtur releasing his power. Odin comes absorbing it and then puts Thor on trial then leaves again WTF!
Fraction if you're reading this, do all of Thor's fans a favor, NEVER write a Thor storyline AGAIN.

He's moved over to the FF now. FF fans have my sympathy.

Do I need to read the Mighty Thor issues up until Everything Burns or can I skip it? I want to finish the JIM Li'l Loki stories, but I really, really don't want to read Fraction's Thor.
Other Fraction books I like, but after his Thor arc, I couldn't come back to that.

Skip it. "Everything Burns" is hugely important for Kid Loki, but you can comfortably ignore everything else for Thor. I intend to now that it's over.

Yeah Fractions whole run is better ignored. The Galactus arc has nice art by Coipel but everything is so random, nothing links up or makes sense apart from everything burns but I think that was mostly Gillen (the JIM series is excellent). Fraction's final issue really was awful, a really desperate attempt to tie everything together. I have hopes for the Aaron run as it seems its a little more serious from him.

The Galactus/Silver Surfer arc was fun for like 2 panels--both involving headbutts
--but the rest of it still sucks.

Which sucks, because that was the one arc I wanted to read because of Galactus.

It's better than pretty much any of Fraction's other arcs, if that helps. I mean, I wouldn't absolutely recommend that you skip it if you really want to read it. The rest of them, though... even if you want to, I'd personally come over to your house and smack you 'til you stop. Fraction's run is that bad.

Fraction was wierd though as his ages of thunder one shots were pretty good I thought, then he took over from Gillen and was dreadful. Marvel must have known it wasn't working with fraction pretty much right away as they relaunched Thor within 8 issues of him taking over and even with that by #18 his sales were about 15k lower than when Gillen was writing it. Thats with fear itself (also sucked) to help promote the book, they were very quick to bring Gillen back to Thor's world with JIM too. Ding, dong the witch is dead!
