Deadpool is easily my favorite marvel character, followed by punisher and doctor strange. I can't wait for the Poseh run, and as soon as I get some cash to blow I'm going to splurge on a few more TPB's, I already have volumes 2-4 of the Deadpool Classics, I want to get V.1 and I think there are 2 or 3 more volumes after 4. And despite what I've heard I do want to check out the way run, just because I love the character.

So what's the deal with DP's healing factor. Is it just gone in X-Force or is it a permanent thing now?

In X-Force it's gone, even one of the better character moments had him and Kurt talking about how he should sit this mission out since he's without it. Wade, in his own way, said that this is the most important thing he's been a part of and will see it through.
...That all being said, knowing he doesn't have his healing factor makes his current situation all the more heartbreaking. Man, Remender is doing a great job on this book. |

Can we discuss Deadpool #1 here or there's already a thread for that?

I don't see why we can't discuss Deadpool #1 here. Only other thread would be the Bought and Thought, I guess.
Anyway, I thought this first issue was just okay. I've never been the biggest DP fan but I picked up the book to give Brian Posehn a chance since he's new to Marvel and I enjoy his stand up. I'll give the book another issue or two but nothing about #1 really wowed me. I also feel like the whole "Evil Zombie Historical Figures" thing is really played out in comics, so I hope something more interesting or original comes out of that. Also, I've only read a few DP issues before now, but doesn't he always have, like, multiple voices in his head all the time? Maybe that was just another writer's thing, but I kinda missed it in this issue. |

The multiple voices...oiy, that was one of Way's additions that many of us have issue with. Wade's messed up, but he's not schizophrenic.

Ah, I always assumed that was just part of his character.
Aside from the voices thing, what's the problem people have with Daniel Way? I haven't read much of him except for a few older DP issues, but I'm curious for the new Thunderbolts book and I've been reading some negative things about him. Specifically, what's the problem with his writing? Bad voices? Screwing with characters personalities? Weak plots? Too many jokes about chimichangas? |

I liked Ways take on Deapdool in Wolverine Origins and the early issues of his solo but after that its down hill and overstays his welcome.
He made Deadpool way too cartoony( even by Deadpool standards) and more an idiot instead of being crazy. He also didnt write him to be very lethal or add much depth to the character at all. Remender has done more with Deadpool in the last two issues of UXF then Way did his whole run. I do think Way started to get better with the "Dead" arc near the end of his run. But the last issue of his series was worse then the Sopranos finale. I dont know if it was because of Marvel now, but it seems he either gave up or couldnt finish at the end of the last issue. Sometimes it really just seemed like Way wasnt trying or just didnt like the character. Hopefully with Deadpool being part of a team in Thunderbolts, Way can balance him better and make him more lethal.

Def sums it up quite nicely. Way made Wade far too cartoony, far too idiotic, and muted his lethal capabilities in favor of making him an incompetent jackass. He started off decently, but he stayed far too long on that book.
Other problems that Way had were the multiple voices, which wouldn't have been a problem if there was a reason why the white box started showing up; Way completely ignored past character progressions that Nicieza brought in with Cable & Deadpool and what Joe Kelly and Gail Simone did in their runs on the original Deadpool book, while Deadpool was nutty, he was always a much deeper character than what he let on, but Way ignored any potential depth with the character; and Way had no interest in writing Wade's supporting cast asides from Bob, Agent of H.Y.D.R.A. |

Thanks for the info, guys. I can see why people would criticize Way for stuff like that. I meant to ask in the Stupid Question thread awhile back if Deadpool was always cartoonish. Given his rise in popularity over the last few years, I started wondering about that.
So did anyone else pick up the new issue? |

Yeah, I liked it quite a bit actually. The multiple voices weren't there, it looks like Posehn and Duggan are actually going to try and develop and expand Deadpool's supporting cast, Deadpool being an agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. to use for the events that look bad for S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and the Avengers is a neat idea, and it looks like they're going back to the Nicieza era of characterization where Deadpool just wants to be accepted but the heroes just don't want to.
Also, the zombie Presidents are just cool. |

I completely agree. Deadpool has always been a humorous character, but not a joke. Which, is, unfortunately what he has become in recent years.

Just read #1 lastnight. Personally, I enjoyed the concept, and the art was pure eye candy. It wasn't the most amazing book of all time, but I'll probably continue with it.
And I personally enjoyed Way's Deadpool, though I'm more of a contemporary Deadpool fan. That's not to say I'm against a nitty-gritty Deadpool.

so far my knowledge of deadpool goes up to the end of the mithras initiative, volume 4 of the deadpool classics collection. So I've never actualy read one of the way comics, so I've never seen the multiple voices in his head thing. however, I'm not used to him being able to take his mask off in front of people without freaking out about his face...and I thought I heard that in recent comics his face had been cured, and that he had also lost his healing factor?

I can't remember if it started in C&DP but during Way's run he hasn't really seemed to have issue with losing his mask, and that really has bothered me. That little vulnerability in Wade spoke volumes. Look at when Zoe Culloden and Monty 'ported to his house and he was drunk in a bathrobe. "DON'T YOU DARE LOOK AT ME!"
Zoe thought he was just being weird, and in a panic, he grabbed a box, poked eyeholes in it and actually PUNCHED Zoe. It showed how unstable Pool is and I'm sad to see that that element has largely been abandoned these days.

same here, I love how obviously f***ed up in the head deadpool is in the kelly run. There is a reason nobody wants to be around him, and it isn't just because he's annoying, he's dangerous.

I have a vague memory of Wade getting over his appearance problem when he dealt with a young boy who has a similar physical disfigurement.
