I've never seen it, but I remember much of the negativity stemmed from the fact that they cast a white lead. Which is funny considering most people were interested in the movie for Chan and Li.

It's actually a really cool movie, I loved all the Nods to Journey to West. I've been reading the Arthur Waley translation (entitled Monkey: Folk Novel of China) and Started picking up on references that I didn't when I first saw the movie in theaters. Like the main kid being named Jason Tripitakas.

Forbidden Kingdom pleasantly surprised me. Sure it wasn't the greatest movie ever, but I thought it was a good modern day martial arts movie.

I just can't seem to ever take Tom Hardy seriously in tough guy roles. His face is just too friendly, I'm never convinced.

Zodiac is a frighteningly overlooked Fincher film. And it's the best thing he's made since Fight Club. Yes, I am counting The Social Network and TGWTDT.

I agree. Hated it the first time I saw it, but it stuck in my mind anyway. Watched it again, loved it.

honestly so did I. aside from the joker and the ending nothing in the dark knight really impresses me.

I think I blame Theres Something About Mary for for Ben Stiller's crappiness. Before that movie came out he was carving himself quite the career as a serious dramatic actor, and you know what? He was really good.

Then Mary was a smash hit, and he seemed to realise that the "uptight but affable guy with an explosive temper" shtick made money. Jump to 14 years later and his cv is made up almost exclusively of pretty much the exact same role.

There are a few exceptions, where he's been decent (i.e. The Royal Tenebaums, his Curb stint) but I largely attribute those to his cleverly basking in the glory of more talented people.

not super unpopular, but i thought iron man 2 and quantum of solace were two of the worst films i've seen in the past 5 years.

Chan and Li were great. I wasn't interested in the kid's storyline , but I still enjoy The Forbidden Kingdom. It's a shame that will probably be the only time those two icons work together.
