Both Hull movies are vastly underrated IMO.

One I'll throw out there is Ravenous. Vert underrated with some amazing performances and scoring throughout.

Yeah, honestly, I think if Ang Lee's Hulk had been released 6 or 7 years, it would have received far greater reception, people just weren't expecting a superhero film like that, after movies like spider-man and X-Men (while still rather dark, it still had plenty quasi cheesy moment like Logan flipping the adamantium bird). But after films like Watchmen and The Dark Knight I think people would have been more receptive to what Ang Lee was trying to do with Hulk.

I agree.

A huge problem with Ang Lee's Hulk was the advertising. It made it seem like a fun, wall to wall action popcorn flick, and that is not at all what it was. While it is paced too slowly, becomes convoluted by the end, and the last fight is one of the worst I've seen in any movie, it does have a lot going for it and it's a shame so many people flat out despise it.

The Incredible Hulk was much better though.

I disagree.

While I did love the first act of TIH, it pretty quickly devolved into a rather brainless actioneer lacking any real style or distinguishing features. It's one of those movies people will see on HBO at 2am, and as soon as its over, immediately forget they've watched it.

^agreed on that, I think if Ang Lee had directed the story to the incredible hulk, we'd have gotten a great, definitive hulk film imo. I love the visuals he was able to create for his film. A lot of imagery that could have been iconic were they associated with a better received film, same goes for danny elfman's score for the film. I love his hulk theme, something as simple but memorable as 6 descending notes over and over again, for me that was hulk getting the john williams treatment. the problem with that film was the story I think. Whereas TIH had a pretty good story imo, a little simplistic, but not too dense or convoluted. It just needed more depth, which Lee could have brought to it, instead we had a generic action director who's idea of an artistic style is using a crane shot for everything.

I think Synecdoche, New York is ungodly underrated.

It's an extremely heavy movie, that I don't think you could even classify as being enjoyable to watch, but I've never seen a film so accurately translate the inner workings of the human mind.

Also, upon watching it a second time...I really don't think much of the movie is "real" at all. It all has to be the inner-delusions of Caden's mind. Maybe he went into a coma after getting hit in the head with that sink faucet, maybe the entirety of the movie is a dream, I don't know, but I certainly don't think a single lick of it after the first act ever actually happens.

Agreed, I though Ghostbusters 2 was very fun. Even Predator 2 I thought was well done for what it was. It was fun to see the Predator running around the city.

The King Of Comedy. Indeed one of Scorsese's best. It speaks to us now more than it did when it was released..

The live-action Grinch movie starring Jim Carrey. I love the scenes where it's just The Grinch talking to himself in the cave, with his funny voices and mannerisms.

Even though it wasn't in the book, I liked that they gave The Grinch an origin, it made him more sympathetic.

And it featured Anthony Hopkins as the narrator. Brilliant.

It's not a perfect movie, but still a good one.

I never understood why people dislike it so much either.

Oh I adore the Grinch with Jim Carrey. It's second only to Jingle All The Way on my list of favorite christmas movies. Also, there are only two movies on that list.

I used to love Jingle All The Way as a child, but then I watched it a few months ago and couldn't even get through it.

Absolutely. Fantastic film. In fact, this and The Aviator are probably my favorite of his films, which is another vastly underrated film (yeah, yeah it got nominated for Best Picture, but no one ever ranks it very highly from what I see).

Oh I agree. I don't ever tear up due to a movie, but the score of that film coupled with the overall emotional impact of whats going on gets me every time. As much as I love that film, I can't bring myself to watch it very often.

Love The Aviator too. I think it's better than The Departed. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The King of Comedy, and The Aviator are my favorite films of his. Though I still haven't seen TLTOC, and Cape Fear to BOTD.
