Isn't that what Huntress is for?

I've no idea. I haven't read the synopsis for that episode. Though I still think Red Hood can work regardless. I don't think he'll have a sudden change of heart after one episode. If he's going to stop killing people left and right, I would hope that it would be a combination of whatever happens with Huntress and subplots within the show that make him question what he's doing (like the effect it has on his family/friends and other things).

They are introducing Huntress, to basically be the more extreme version of Arrow, who even gets innocent people in harms away, as long as she fulfills her goal. And her methods will make him question how far he's willing to go and maybe even rethink his methods. Red hood would be redundant, if he'd be used just like Huntress.

I could see Nightwing showing up... but I would wait a couple more seasons to do it. I figure wth Green Arrow being in his first year, the rest of the DC universe is still somewhere near their starting point too (1-4 years experience). So at this point, Bruce could be anywhere from test driving the Tumblr to already having Dick Grayson at his side. So give him at least a couple years. Then, have Nightwing show up saying that he is there on behalf of his "employer", who is not the most sociable individual, unless he has good reason to be. Ollie asks why he's here then. Dick's answer is "to see if there's a good reason." You can easily make all kinds of allusions to who his employer really is. Nightwing is there because of a certain villain that he and Batman were after, so he sends Nightwing to track him down, AND to see if this Arrow guy is really on the up and up. Maybe even have a scene where Nightwing figures out that Ollie is Arrow and he calls his "boss" to say "you'll never guess who this guy really is... oh, right... of course you knew..." (*bonus points if we at least get Kevin Conroy's voice or something on the other end of the line saying "Oliver Queen... did you really think I sent you just to investigate how good he was with a bow?"). Part of Nightwing's mission is to see if Ollie is on the up and up too. For what? Who knows... maybe they can start like a club or a league or something, haha... but Arrow and Nightwing team up to take down whoever this villain is.

End with maybe Ollie getting a phone call from Bruce and actually hearing him say "It's a pleasure to finally speak with you... Mr.Wayne." Or if they really can't say or show anything, just have Dick saying that his boss will "be in touch."

Heck, Dick could be a re occuring character for a few episodes, maybe a detective sent in from Bludhaven PD to help with finding "Arrow".

If they do a crossover with Nightwing that would be bada**. I even wouldn't mind if they introduced him and no Batman. I love Bats, but give him a little break. I wouldn't mind him not showing up until a JL movie.

I think having Nightwing on the show would bring a lot of Gotham, Bludhaven elements without overshadowing Starling City and GA. If you bring in Batman that could possibly overshadow GA and then make fans eager for a return and unhappy if Batman doesn't ever come back on the series. Then if writers try to appease fans by bringing in Batman too much you will get fans asking for more Batman and possibly a spinoff show.

The only problem is the massive age difference. Arrow and Nightwing are heroes in different generations.

When Oliver is this young (a guy in his 20s), Dick should be about 5 years old.

No I'd rather they keep Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman out of this. If anyone (other than Black Canary) ought to be in the show it's gotta be Hal Jordan!

On second thought.... okay how about the Smallville-JLA roster? It'd be a nice homage to long-time CW/DC fans. We'd get Aquaman, The Flash, Superman, Martian Manhunter, Black Canary, and maybe Cyborg?

or the old JSA?

Red Hood, Huntress, and even the Black Cat seems so wasted in terms of story potential these days. You essentially have these characters as inside-operatives for the Mob, someone like the Green Hornet from the old radio shows who are perceived as evil by everyone else but they operate to exploit the mob for the greater good. Y'know, heroes "who stop crime by committing it."

It's the same questionable logic that Al Capone was sporting back in the noir-days; perceived as a Robin Hood-esque populist hero but he broke every damn rule in the book and was known by all to be a criminal. Or even Dillinger. That's how you make Huntress or Red Hood stand out. Not as some crazy-ass vigilante who's essentially a sexy mirror-opposite to your already twisted anti-hero.

Worse. I read the first 6, and Smallville seemed to hit the proper personality of Oliver more than the New 52.

I don't think a Smallvillean approach to a young Oliver is all that bad to begin with. Haven't read the New-52 but he was sort of the Tony Stark of that group. The more I think of it, the fanboy in me just want that Smallville League to make a quick-buck off the Avengers hype That's the sort of artistic indulgence that makes bad stories. Guilty.

This might be the bourbon talking... but here goes:

Lots of people have been suggesting Nightwing/Robin to show up on Arrow. Which sounds good and all but who should play him? As crazy as it sounds, I think an ideal choice would be Taylor Lautner - yes, the werewolf guy from Twilight.

Think about it: While he might sound pricy at first, now that Twilight is over, he might be open for a new job to get into and add to his credentials. Plus, he'd be about the right age relative to Stephen Amell/Oliver for the part, would be well received by the CW audience, and has the right looks to sell the role. Plus, as I've just realised, actually knows his way around the bo staff and has the training that would be handy for Nightwing/Robin:

I like the Wildcat, Question, Amanda Waller, Rick Flagg and Bronze Tiger suggestions.

The Bludhaven reference does suggest a Nightwing appearance is possible. And I guess Batman could be brought in during a future season to pop a rating during sweeps.

Best to ignore the whole Batman issue entirely, unless you're willing/able to actually put Batman on the show.
