Chips shortages = bad news. Could lead to delay in release, hopefully not increased production costs.

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) is again extending its Xbox subscription plans to additional retailers, an effort to attract more users by lowering upfront costs of acquiring the game console ahead of the holiday shopping season.
The company plans to make the $99 offer--which combines an Xbox 360 videogame console and a Kinect motion sensor with a two-year service contract--also available through Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT), Toys "R" Us Inc. and all GameStop Corp. (GME) shops in the coming weeks.

Do people actually find the Xbox subscription model to be an attractive offer? If I were in that position, Id just save up $100 (and no I dont care for they threw in Kinect) and just buy the system instead of being stuck with recurring payments for the next 24 months. $100 really isnt that much in the long run.

I think it'll be useful when it comes to the next gen if the consoles cost up to 400 to have deals like current smartphone deals. The upfront cost must be a barrier to entry for a lot of people.

Looks like an internet modem or a steel case collector's edition for a game..Yet I like that it's small in height&width and actually resembles a box,I always liked the Xbox name on it's own than Xbox 360 But I think it should at least be Xbox 3,The augmented reality head mounted device sounds interesting But I hope it's an accessory or an option like like the kinect for 360,Blu-Ray player ftw.

Is a quad-core processor and eight gigs of ram good?

I just went and bought a new Xbox to replace my current one

That could turn out to be more rumours anyway.

Even IF they reveal it at E3 during summer it'll likely launch latter next year or 2014

So they basically are going the reboot route and calling it the Xbox.

It's going to make internet searching on XBox issues really difficult to find what you want in certain instances. Games consoles used to have exotic names to differentiate them. But the name isn't bad anyway and all the suggested things like 720 (which I didn't mind) & Loop (which I thought was terrible) I'd heard had a fair number of people who didn't like them. I don't think plain XBox will turn off as many people.

These extra things like Kinect 2.0 & the headpiece can add a lot if implemented well but I'm most interested in how the standard no-extra gadget gaming experience will improve.

Augmented reality is the concept of looking through some sort of computer-aided lens and seeing everything like you normally would, except there would be "stuff" for lack of a better word projected out into the world.

So IF there would be a mounted head device that does that..I'm guessing the player using it would be the only one looking at that extra stuff in the game world than people looking at the TV screen!?,Very interesting and it'd be like a new form of Virtual Reality that has been used on games for many years!

Before the holidays next year would make sense, I'd say that's the most likely release date.

Yes, I think they'll either announce at E3 or their own dedicated conference but any later and it is getting too late to build the hype before the holidays.
