Gearbox confirms Aliens: Colonial Marines has female characters

The cast of Gearbox Software's upcoming xenophobia sim, Aliens: Colonial Marines, won't be entirely male, the developer announced during a panel at last weekend's PAX Prime event in Seattle, WA. One female character named Jennifer Redding will be available in co-op, while the game's competitive multiplayer modes will include options for customizing different female marines.

Since the announcement was made, a 3,800-person strong internet petition to have female characters added to the game has taken credit, updating with a message that "the petition is a SUCCESS!!! CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE!, and thank you for your support!"

Meanwhile, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford maintains that women were always part of the plan, according to Kotaku. Essentially, Gearbox had yet to complete the design work for Redding and the multiplayer models and did not want to unveil them until they were finalized. As the petition's online presence mounted, however, the developer felt it should show off the plans to resolve the situation.

Aliens: Colonial Marines – Survival Mode Trailer

Sega has released a new trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines showcasing the game's Survivor multiplayer mode. The mode pits four marines against waves of aliens and players will be able to open up new parts of the map as the game progresses, similar to Zombies in Call of Duty.

I want to get excited about this game. I really do. It seems like it has all the ingredients to make a great ALIENS game.

It just looks so dated.

Are they? I thought it started under SEGA or something, like, a billion years ago? I could swear we first heard rumors of this game 6+ years ago.

I fully could be wrong, though. If it's a 100% Gearbox build it could be great.

it started out as SEGA and they threw to a dev studio immediately. and from the sound of it Gearbox has been on it from the ground up. I know SEGA publishing this is something to be worried about. But Gearbox being on this and building it from the start should even things out. It should at least be decent.

They really need to show off a level from beginning to end. These 2 min videos aren't showing off the game in the best light, or at least really all that different from the Marine campaigns in the last AvP game.

Yea i kind of agree but it's more because I'm findin myself less and less intrigued over the license. Right before Prometheus came out I rewatched the 2 orig films and just didn't care for them like I used to. Maybe this can get me back into the series. IDK.

I think the conceit in this game is somehow the explosion didn't destroy the entire colony which given what we saw at the end of Aliens I am just going to look at this as non-canonical.

I actually like Alien 3 but I really think they should have separated Newt and Hicks from Ripley rather than kill them. That was going too far.

In the trailer it mentions the Sulaco was last seen over the planet from Alien 3 before returning to LV-426 so its safe to assume Alien 3 still happened in the game's timeline.

That'd fix my biggest complaint with the movie, but not all of them.
