Its all BS logic predicated around a book that predates science.

Now what would be really fascinating is if life on Mars predates life on earth. That would bring up some interesting questions. Not sure if there is any way to prove that without actually going to mars and doing extensive studies which is probably a century off.
I've been a Christian for 16 years and I don't think I've ever heard another christian claim there couldn't be life on other planets due to our religious beliefs. Some don't believe just because they don't believe, but I'd say a good 90% of the Christians I've known either believe or just don't have an opinion on the matter. The only time I've heard people not believe in something due to it not being mentioned in the Bible is whether or not animals have souls, which is silly to me.

My thought, the Bible was written for humans. Not Martians or German Shephards. Why would they be mentioned?

And to learn that life on Mars is older than life on Earth wouldn't mean much. A lot of Christians (most?) don't trust carbon dating and all that jazz anyhow. It'd just be discarded or, like me, they'd assume there's more to the story than we know (whether scientifically or spiritually).

I'm assuming it'll be some element or word I've never heard of that shows there could have possibly been life there thousands of years ago, though we can't know for sure. In which case, I would shrug and go back to reading my comics.

Maybe they're anti-jazz because they don't think the world is big enough for God AND Miles Davis (also I'm quite surprised someone named JewishHobbit is a Christian *shrug*)

The theory that Miles Davis is on is Mars is just that, a theory. It's never been proven! Teach the controversy!!!

The Jewish part was an inside joke among friends back when I first created the name. I've considered changing it in the years since but people would complain due to how long I've been "Jewish." I keep thinking "The Hobbit" or "The Barrel-rider" but it'll never happen.

In church from 2 months old to 18 years of age. In a private christian school for 6 years, 6 years of doctrine and bible studies, and I live in the heart of the bible belt. I've heard a lot of crazy **** in my time.

I'm not sure if you know what Sola Scriptura means, but in case you don't it means "by scripture alone." Which is to say it demands that all other authorities are subordinate to, and are to be corrected by, the written word of God. This idea is the foundation of the Protestant Reformation and all sects that rose out of that reformation still hold by this principal. By this doctine anyone that believes in sola scriptura, which is most in the countless protestans sects existing today, believes that God's word is the 'end all be all' and everything must agree with it. Therefore, because the bible does not mention alien life then any alien life found would disagree with God's word therefore alien life can not possibly exist. This is their argument. I had to argue this BS in Bible Apologetics class. Is their argument right? **** no, but it is an argument, and it is one I've encountered on more than one occassion.

You'd imagine I'd agree with you having been Penticostal for around 11 or 12 years (and about 3 different churches, several youth camps, etc) before going non-denominational, but I can still comfortably say I've never heard anyone go by that regarding Aliens and such. I have tons of pastorial friends and all that. None of them has ever said they don't exist because they aren't in the Bibile. Heck, several believe in them. The rest don't, but just because they don't. Nothing Biblical about it.

Actally, I take that back. I can think of one person, a friend's grandmother who passed away about 14 years ago, who believed in aliens but thought they were demons. That's about it though

I've heard some arguments regarding dinosaurs, and how God could have easily put the bones in the Earth, or that carbon dating could be wrong and dating them improperly, but most of us roll our eyes at it. I don't know anyone really who doesn't believe in dinosaurs. I remember one guy who came in to speak about carbon dating, a former big wig scientist apparently who eventually turned away form it due to how rediculous he ended up feeling it was. I wasn't sure if I believed the guy but it was a very interested lesson. He was all in support of dinosaurs, simply that they aren't as old as science believes. Something to do with the sun and the layer around earth that protects it and the theoretical layer of water that used to suround the Earth unti Noah, etc.

Not to get off topic...

So they still haven't announced this? If it were as Earth shattering (no pun intended) as NASA is implying they wouldn't be sitting around with their thumbs up their asses. Each day this becomes more and more of an obvious ploy to make people care about the space program again.

I'm all for slashing the miltary budget world wide and kicking up the space programs budget at least as much as they'd cut.

I actually know two people personally that dont believe in dinosaurs. They cant explain them but they refuse to except them because they arent in the bible. I think you can guess where they line up on aliens. Ive also heard of a few who think they are tricks of satan's. I live in an area of older hardcore baptist. Crazy **** abounds here.

Its human nature tho. People will either ignore something in the hopes they are never forced to face it, rationalize it away with false thought, or they go along with it for peace of mind. But its a very different thing when the evidence is irrefutable and staring you in the face. People will either ignore it, rationalize it away, fight it, or accept it. To say the finding of organic life on another planet wouldn't create at the very least rumblings and uneasiness in religious factions is failing to remember which species we are discussing. I also see it fueling the evolution discussion which always brings out those very special people pushing ID.

Im fine with that as long as the troops pay isnt included in the cut.s Buddy of mine was talking about his pay and it is pure **** what they get paid. Most don't consoder the fact that the military is on a 24 hour pay cycle. They are always on call. Anytime they are needed they can be called in so they are paid for all 24 hours not just 8 like us on a 9-5. When you break their pay down they make like $2 an hour. Its awful.
