I gotta say, I don't see Cage as part of SHIELD (I'm not aware of the Ultimates version). Also, if there are still plans to make a Power Man/Luke Cage film then I really don't see them having him as a SHIELD agent.

What is everyones opinion on references of Fin Fang Foom in IM3? He looks to be depicted here, with what looks like a view of one of the ring's symbols under it.

This is also another reason. Mortal Thor was basically just a big muscled man who knew how to fight, Luke eats those guys for breakfast.

I hope that is a shout-out to Fin since I love that silly dragon beyond all reason. Marvel's monster comics were one of my childhood joys, along with old issues of EC Comics my uncles gave me. With his connection to the Mandarin's rings in the comics, Fin deserves at least an Easter Egg reference in IM3.

If Marvel went into the magical realm eventually, and Mandarin was still around, then perhaps Iron Man could face Fin Fang Foom. Would it be that different to him luring that Leviathan in the Avengers? Of course, they probably wouldn't use Foom's name, unless Stark says it in jest when Mandarin actually says something different that sounds vaguely similar.

But since Mandarin doesn't seem to be Asian anyway, then would there really be a connection in these movies?

There can definitely be a connection between the Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom. The cosmic dragon's movie origin can diverge from that of his comics counterpart, just as the Mandarin has a different origin in the MCU. Even if they keep the detail of Fin having crash-landed in ancient China, there is no reason why he and Mandarin couldn't have encountered each other. People do travel, after all, and one would assume that alien reptiles do as well.

He is Asian. He's just not of Chinese descent.
