Ugh. The film that almost killed Star Trek (for the second time).

It had very interesting ideas. Kirk having to reclaim his old ship after an absence as admiral and competing with Decker, same with Spock coming back too. It's just goddamn was it boring at times.

Watching the first one, I've had to fast forward a few times past the self-indulgent three minute long shots of the Enterprise slowly gliding through space. It's like alright, we get it. Star Trek on the big screen. But can you get to some ****ing story please?

There's far too much waxing philosophical about ideas and concepts between Kirk, Spock and others in that film. They don't always need to have deep conversations about everything. It was appropriate sometimes in the original series, but it's like they forgot when those times were, and thought that they'd do that for everything. That's why they spend excessive time discussion things which they wouldn't in subsequent films.

You have to admit though Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) had some fantastic special effects that still look good more than 30 years after it was made, and the late Jerry Goldsmith's music is superb.

Did you watch the remastered ST: TMP with the new, updated special effects or the original one? Some of the original ones look very dated. Jerry Goldsmith's score is magnificent though.

Even Star Trek: TWOK has outdated special effects. That simulation of the Genesis project looks like old Atari graphics. Not sure if they have updated that, but seeing as they've done it for the original series and the Next Generation, that wouldn't be out of the question.

Is that seriously real? I mean its cool but laying on the TDKR poster vibe a bit thick. Although this is far better than the TDKR theatrical poster with its awkward angles.

I think it's legit, it's got the Australian classification logo on the bottom left.

I remember last summer when TDKR was filming during the day, in public, Nolan and his crew didn't care, but JJ? He put shipping containers around the set...
If a film is successful, as ST09 was, to what degree can you really say the marketing was poor? Because it didn't follow the usual pattern to a t?

I mean I thought Avatar's advertising was basically suicidal waiting until just a few months before to reveal a single thing but then they cranked up the advertising during the baseball playoffs and it was super successful.

Very on the nose. The poster wears it's influence on its sleeve. Nevertheless, it's pretty.

The posters for The Dark Knight back in 2008 created two things in poster trends:

1.) Debris everywhere

2.) Ember/sparks..everywhere!

Judging Benedict's uber-Britishness and him staring off at Future London, me thinks he's not Khan, or Gary Mitchell.

I don't get the joke with The CW, unless you're making a joke that's totally dated by 4 years. (Star Trek 90201, Star Trek WB/CW)

He's wearing a black trench coat and "Star Trek" ain't even in the title. Seems to be a common practice for the CW.

I spot the London Gherkin building on the poster.

It does have a "some men want to watch the world burn" vibe.
