I really don't see the similarities between posters, or poses or even the mood of it. If anything I don't see them trying to copy anyone's work.

The effect of this is felt more because its one of the ONLY pieces of imagery that we have from this film. Its easy to feel underwhelmed. |

![]() While I like this poster, it's very obvious where the idea came from conceptional-wise..

![]() ![]() You don't see that its the franchise symbol made of the negative space from crumbled buildings and that the whole thing is black orange and grey? I actually think the Star Trek poster actually executes the whole thing far better in terms of composition and angle, but seriously, you can't see how they are similar? Actually, its even closer to this.

Marketing is all about being derivative. It's always been like that though now we're more aware of it. That and photoshop can be used as a crutch. We can see bad ones a mile away.

WB and Paramount really outdid themselves today in releasing shoddy posters. Still damn excited for Star Trek and MOS but boy oh boy are these posters terribly stale and overall poorly made.

Exactly, and movie posters go through painfully obvious trends.
But again, as the first thing to finally come out of the marketing for this film it is kind of boring when it is coming almost exactly a year after the poster it is taking from. |

My issue with the Man of Steel poster is how you can tell its a screen grab and they filtered the crap out of it.

MOS poster is crap, and it has a lens flare that makes absolutely no sense. No source of light could be causing that flare.

I like the idea behind it though. Besides it's another 'teaser' poster and not the final one.

Before I only saw the picture of Cumberbatch with his back towards us and I didnt see the full poster,so I was looking for similarities between the poses of the characters. Now that I see the whole picture I see the use of negative space in both posters, ST has destruction all around the human figure while the DK one has a crumbling city coming towards us.

MOS poster? I like the idea of a god like being being shackled as well. Its intense symbology and turns the idea of superman on its head and shows human xenophobia towards aliens, but the execution was bleh.

You got me there. People are going to know this is Trek though because of the trailers that are coming out.
And yes people it's a ripoff of a poster from a billion dollar movie, it actually handles the concept better than Rises though. When something makes money hollywood rips it off. It's a poster kids not the end of the universe.

It is marketing and as long as it works and gets attention it will be used. Right now this current trend gets attention. Even more so because people like to fuss about it.

We've gotta remember that rises was not the first movie to have a poster in that style. And this is certainly not the first one to have the popular back shot of someone looking over his shoulder slightly. It will continue

It looks like the poster without Star Trek on it is international. You can tell because of the date being Day/Month/Year as opposed to Month/Day/Year.
The US version has Star Trek on it. ![]() It's interesting that they chose to do it that way. I wonder why. |

Maybe they trust international audiences to be smart enough to figure out what it is. Americans, on the other hand...

Mass Effect borrowed its share from Star Trek (not to mention Babylon 5), so it's only fair.
Cool poster though. |

Some seem to be ignoring the clear TDK/Inception influences on the poster as well. It is like they put the Joker/Cobb poster in the middle of a TDKR poster.

Surprised there's no Enterprise (or other Federation starship) in the distance or something though.
