Like has been pointed out, TDK/Inception didnt create the style. This is marketing they use what works. And this marketing isnt meant for us. Its meant for joblo walking through the theater. Its meant to catch his eye and inform him trek is back. We already know its back. They didnt do this for us.

And I miss the days when the poster was less pure marketing tool and more a piece of art.

The majority of the posters this year for film have sucked. I can't really think of any that stick out in my mind.

Killing Them Softly and Django Unchained have both had pretty good posters. Also Cabin in the Woods' rubix cube cabin was cool.

The Gorn are in the new Star Trek videogame that comes out next year. So if anything like this happens it would be there.

I actually addressed this scene to the game's producer when I interviewed him and here is what he had to say:

Brian Miller: That sounds exactly like something we would do for this game.

Jeffrey Harris: So you know what I'm talking about?

Brian Miller: I know *exactly* what you're talking about. We need a bamboo stick with some chemicals. We absolutely need to have that.

Those are awesome posters. Very retro and almost like those exploitation covers to the Ian Fleming bond novels.

Reminds me of the Venture Bros. title sequence and logo.

I've seen both, and I think the V'Ger cloud effects and the worm hole effect from the original still look good. Didn't care for the director edition changing some of the sound effects.

The new poster looks fine in that "everything must be photoshopped" kind of way that posters tend to look like now.

Yep, the poster is an epic failure and an absolute confirmation that this will be the worst movie ever made.

I'd be surprised if everyone involved isn't permanently blacklisted in Hollywood after this movie completely bombs at the box office.

This is nothing new, movie posters from a big studio go though a process and use the same templates for the most part. I don't see how people are still shocked that this happens.

was anyone even writting that the poster is bad because it is a copy from TDKR? why are some in the deffense attack mode?

its the same in the superman boards. fans have a problem with the quality. pixel quality. but no. some idiots think that we dont like the concept.

personally, i like this teaser poster, but im not a fan of the MoS poster we got, for a couple reasons:

1. the MoS poster was poorly executed and way over-hyped
2. while the concept itself is interesting, it looks amateurish

this teaser poster, on the other hand, wasn't even hyped about, so the fact that we got one is very surprising, and and pleasantly at that. now, the fact that it is using designs that have been used on other posters as well, but this doesnt surprise me in the least, so i am happy with what we have gotten for this movie
