The poster has piqued my interest in a way it wasn't before. This looks like a different take on a classic superhero. And, to me at least, that's refreshing.

I think it's kind of funny that the new poster (which I love btw) is kind of blurry, like the ComiCon footage that's floating around the net. Most everyone didn't get to see the CC footage live, so we all had to deal with the blurriness of bootleg. That shot is directly from CC footage and so I'm wondering if this may be a little nod to the ones that didn't get to see the footage at CC? I know, I know....it's probably not, but I just thought it was a neat coincidence.

I know that. I wasn't saying it was as blurry as the footage.

Thinking about it more indeptly, give this a thought:
What is a stronger, more effective piece of advertising? Something with mass appeal, with little to it, little thought required? Eye catching and appealing, ala Spider-man posters. Or, something which is not quite as easy on the eyes, but inspires a tad bit of thought within the viewer? One make more, but weaker, connections, while the other makes less, but stronger, connections. One penetrates far deeper into ones psyche than the other. Remember these images ![]() ![]() ![]() Hardly special at all on their own, but all quite popular once their origins were understood. I think the idea is make people think, and want to learn more, as opposed to just "looking cool" and nothing. I think the simpler, more thought provoking images are much stronger pieces of marketing with todays blockbusters than in the past years because the connection is much stronger. They'll remember the uniqueness of this image. There is plenty of time to look exciting, but these types of things can accomplish a great deal; they plant deeply imbedded seeds which more standard marketing pieces will not. For example, compare the styles with ![]() See the difference? Man of Steel, more than any other superhero, will need to stand out & appear different. What thoughts would a poster of superman simply flying in a cool pose create that do not already exist in the minds of every viewer? Or needs are there that a 2 second clip of him flying wont fulfill? Someone here has the shot from the teaser of Supes flying as their sig, is that generating mass hype? No. Everybody knows he is going to fly in the movie. I really think this is the right way for them to go. It's different and quite bold. Whether or not it looks overly well done is a different discussion.

I KNEW IT! So I save the new picture to my phone and lightened it up to the point were you can see both legs and eyes of Superman and it looks waaay better. I officially think this picture is awesome! If they re-issue it in HD minus the shadows I would blow it up and frame it.

That's because it's saved locally on your phone. You should email it to yourself, given you have an online email account, and then save it to your computer and finally go to a hosting site like Imageshack.us and upload it there.

It's a nice image. It looks like the poster for a sequel though.

I'm aware of that. Sometimes it's just easier to do it on a computer.

He actually didn't start out nearly as strong as today. One of my favorite depictions is the Fleischer cartoons, which had the perfect amount of incredible strength, but tangible vulnerability. He always overcame whatever the issue, but they added to the tension.

Couldn't agree more. By the same token, I've always felt that Superman should be depicted more as not really knowing exactly how strong or invulnerable he is to a certain degree. Confidence in one's strength is arrogance. True heroism is having the courage to walk (or fly) into a challenge not really knowing if you're capable of succeeding. Obviously as logic would dictate, Superman would already know that he's invulnerable and super strong to a point of course. But when the chips are seriously down, I think it creates drama to depict even Superman a bit fearful that he could fail or die. |

That's actually my major problem with the poster. I understand what they're going for (shock that Superman is in handcuffs being escorted by soldiers)...but the poster just doesn't look very professional. It's not good quality, the colors are waayyyy too muted, and it's not very striking. The first poster was "okay" but this poster is just flat out disappointing, IMO.

Great idea, terrible execution. WB needs to do some firing. I mean, jesus christ, they're not even trying. For TDKR they had no talent hacks trying to compose something, now they have no talent hacks who can't even use PrintScreen properly.
