I don't think mindless Hulk is really a hero. There's no trace of Bruce Banner left in him so no moderating influence. He is mindless destruction and has no sense of right or wrong, only survival. You can't really feel sympathy for him, because he won't even rescue victims but will just kill them if they get in his way. He's no different from these dinosaurs or monster movies with a raging beast. That type wouldn't have saved Iron Man at the end of the Avengers.

If he gets so crazy that he can't tell you're on his team, that's where the issue has always lied with him teaming up. He gets too out of control.

That's why I liked Defenders Hulk. He still was the savage green Hulk with the Hulk Smash vocabulary, but tame enough to be a fully functioning member of the team. I liked it when he bought all those cans of beans from the supermarket (when Banner went to catch up with Valkyrie because she forgot her money) and then later on Hulk was at the dinner table saying "beans are good".
I wouldn't mind seeing that kind of Hulk in the Avengers.

Is it me or did anyone else feel like they cut out the middle part of the Hulk's plotline of the movie?
It looked to me like they were building towards Banner finding how to gain some amount of control over the Hulk and then they just decided to cut directly to him having some control during the end battle. |

Not really. He already gained control at the end of The Incredible Hulk. The Avengers was building up to what his secret of control was.

That was some control he showed aboard the flying aircraft carrier and why Banner is essentially afraid of turning into the Hulk because people might get hurt.

Keep in mind there's a big difference between Hulk on the helicarrier and Hulk during the climax of the film. One is essentially Hulk unleashed and the other is a team-up between Banner and Hulk (when Hulk is always at his finest).

Basically if someone causes an involuntary Hulk-out he just attacks whatever is in his vicinity. If he chooses to unleash him he's still violent but he's coherent and is aware of friend and foe.

I just don't feel like that was ever explained that well, either in a subtle manner or in an overt manner. To me, it always felt like a piece of the puzzle was missing.

Really? They literally had Tony Stark poking and prodding him without getting a reaction and asking "What's your secret?" It took an explosion almost knocking him out completely to shake him and when that happened even Black Widow and everyone on the helicarrier was in danger and he knew it. I felt that was one of the movie's better points which made the "I'm always angry." line make me go "Duh! I feel like an idiot for not figuring this out."
Idunno. I never once thought they were building up to him being in control. Just the answer to how he's been doing it. Dude was pretty zen from the moment Black Widow ran into him in India.

Even though they blew it with naming Avengers the #5 movie of the year, at least they got this right:

Well, here's a honest question that's been bugging me for awhile;
With the Hulk having proven himself to be a hero in the film, along with SHIELD now supposedly behind him, why does Bruce Banner need to go into hiding again? Wouldn't he have enough support to warrant having a somewhat normal life? |

He probably doesn't want the limelight, same as Hulk. Even in the books when people accept them they both just prefer to be by themselves.

I like the idea they've used for the new comic series.

So during his uncontoled hulk-out on the Hellicarrier, was Hulk about to kill Black Widow before Thor interviened?

It depends if a smack from the Hulk would kill you.

Normal person yeah, but I suspect this is the Widow that had some of that altered serum from the comic book origin. That first whack he gave her when they got out of that running sequence would have killed a normal person.

In TIH Blonsky had gotten a dose of serum and with just one legkick from the hulk was left with all his bones broken

Well I remember Kevin Feige saying on how Stark had only dropped off Banner to wherever he needed to be; and seeing as he's the only real main avenger who doesn't seemingly has anything going for him during the events of Phase 2, it seems odd that this guy would be hiding when he's been accepted somewhat by the public as a force for good.
