I tend to put a lot of significance in him being strapped to that table when Cap rescues him in First Avenger. I wonder if that plays into his survival/resurrection.

According to the director's commentary, Zola or someone was experimenting on him with his version of the super-soldier serum. The effects allow him to survive falling from the train.

It would be incredibly easy for them to flashback in Cap 2 to Bucky on that table and show him being experimented on to explain how he'd survive the fall and any other possible augmentations to his strength, etc.

I'd say there's a good chance we'll see that.

I figured it was along those lines. Just never watched it with commentary.

From what I'm seeing on Amazon.com, the DVD should have commentary.

Nicely done. Haven't seen the Director's Commentary, but this serves two purposes: (1) Establish a somewhat plausible reason for Bucky being able to survive the fall, and (2) Well, he does fall under the 'super soldier' rubric... so this gives him a bit of a head start.
