A couple of highlights:

David Benioff (co-creator): We had one really intense conference call with the HBO brass. It was awkward: They said, "So, what are you guys talking about, an extra $500,000?" We said, "Noooo...." "You guys need a million dollars?" "Ummmm...."

Weiss: I think we asked for $2.5 million. We got $2 million-something. That's a lot of money in TV. It was a big ask for them, and they understood it was really important. Our point was that the entire season was pointing toward this confrontation. To do what's normally done on television—the Shakespearean model of talking about battles off-screen—would completely kill the season.

Marshall: In the original script, Stannis Barantheon didn't get any further than the bottom of the ladders [at the wall of King's Landing] and then he sort of disappeared from the script. I thought, "We have to have him do more than that. If he's the polar opposite of King Joffrey, then he should be the first one up the ladder. Let's have a fight with him on the wall.' We choreographed a whole sequence which was never scripted, of Stannis having a sword fight on the wall, chopping a guy's head off, and then basically watching his army's defeat from a bird's-eye position before being dragged off by his own men.

Benioff: There's another battle bigger than this one coming up, but not until the end of season four. So we're preparing our speeches for how we're gonna ask for more money.

I got so excited seeing that before Boardwalk Empire. I was hoping for a trailer of sorts like last year's season finale of Boardwalk, but this will do for now. I hope we get a teaser (not just the date one) soon. I loved last years with Stanis' voice over, "The Cold Winds Are Rising."

So the other day I bought, and watched all of season 1 via Amazon Instant Video, with my dad. Fantastic show, love it. Need more....but unfortunately I can't, since season 2 doesn't come out on DVD till February 2013. Now why is that?

Because they want to release it close enough to the new season as a sort of promotion. It's pretty standard.

Game of Thrones Season Three Episodes to Run Longer

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that episodes for the third season of HBO's "Game of Thrones" will run a few minutes longer compared to the first two seasons.

The magazine says: With showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss tackling content from the first half (roughly) of author George R.R. Martin’s largest Song of Ice and Fire novel (the 973-page fan-favorite A Storm of Swords), the writer-producer duo are delivering slightly longer episodes to the network. There’s still 10, but you’ll get a little more each week than previous seasons.

“There's almost another full episode's worth of extra minutes spread across the season,” Weiss says. “One of the great liberties with HBO is we're not forced to come in at a specific time. We can’t be under 50 minutes or over 60, but that gives us a lot of flexibility."

"A super-sized season, as befitting Storm of Swords," Benioff adds. "Last year we had a lot of 52-minute episodes. This year is a lot of 56, 57."

The magazine says that the third season finale is expected to run more than an hour.

The third season will premiere on HBO on March 31, 2013.

If we cant get more episodes, longer episodes will have to do. Though I do agree with some people around the net that it might be time to cut down the opening credits even if they are great to watch.

I believe they are breaking it up into season 3 and 4.

I didn't get why they didn't have more longer episodes in season 2? From what i remember season 1 episodes were actually pretty long or at least longer than in S2.

I'm also not sure why HBO seems to be against the 1.5-2 hour premiers or finales for their shows? On showtime the season 1 finale of Homeland was 1 hour and a half and that was with a full 12 eps. An 1hr and a half GOT ep. would be epic.

Like some of the books in paperbacks are cut into 2 books, thats whats being done in the seasons, to get the most accurate adaptation of the story.
