Just sitting here listening to his Edward Scissorhands score... Still his absolute best in my opinion.

Absolutely. My top three scores by him are Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas, and IRIS, the Cirque du Soleil show he scored.

Somebody posted videos on YT with dialed out/alternate music (from the La La Land Records expanded cd) from Batman 89 back into the scenes.

Another one posted the same cue but did it sort of different. VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

Got the scores for Hitchcock and MIB3 for Christmas. I LOVE what Elfman did for Hitchcock; it reminds me so much of his mid-'90s scores. And I love the MIB3 score as well, even more so than the first one. It just sounds to me like Elfman had more fun with it.

On other Elfman related news. Looks like Relativity Music Group has released the "Promised Land" soundtrack. Which includes Elfman's score and the original song "Snake Eyes". It doesn't say anything about a physical cd release. Otherwise they would've mentioned the release date. So it might be another digital release like "Silver Linings Playbook". It's already available on iTunes. Oh well. At least the music is getting release in some shape. http://filmmusicreporter.com/2012/12...track-details/ |

An interview with Elfman at his studio (during Alice In Wonderland) where he talks about and demonstrate his process of writing mock-ups of his scores using his studio.

I'm glad THR finally uploaded this video on YT so I can share it up here with those that haven't seen it yet. Though it still might be up on their site. In fact I've already watched it a few weeks ago on their own site. It features not only Elfman, but Alexandre Desplat, Fernando Velasquez, Patrick Doyle, Mychael Danna, and Marco Beltrami all having a roundtable interview for the Hollywood Reporter. It's a little over an hour, but I enjoyed it very much. It's nice to see fellow film composers I respect sharing their experiences and agreeing with one another about 'em. I'll admit it would've been interesting to see Zimmer up there but it was still a great roundtable interview none the less.

No Oscar nod for Elfman this year. Disappointing since this was a busy year for him and each score was totally unique. Ah well. Que sera sera.

His films did well though. Silver Linings Playbook did brilliantly and it's always nice to add a best picture nominee to the resume.
Plus Hitchcock got in for make-up and Frankenweenie for animated film. |

Like Elfman said before the oscars are "arbitrary". Especially when it comes to rules. Tbh, I'm not surprised he wasn't nominated this year. Still doesn't change how much I enjoyed his scores to Dark Shadows, MIB3, and Frankenweenie.

Whenever Elfman has an opportunity to sing in a movie I welcome it. Only 75 mins of music was featured in the film, huh. I remember posting an interview a page back where Elfman said he wrote 115 minutes of music for Oz. Must've gotten replaced by sound effects, which is always the case with Raimi's movies, but I'm still excited for the score regardless.

I think the article is wrong. It took 8 days to record the Oz score and these fantasy movies are almost always wall to wall music, no songs to deal with.

Danny Elfman's score is the only reason I'm going to see Oz. I just want to know how his music services the film.

Though it doesnt have a release date yet looks like Intrada Records and Walt Disney Records are releasing Elfman's Oz the Great & Powerful score. It has 27 tracks, which contains the "main titles" and "end credits" music.

Well they announced the 2012 IFMCA nominations today. Looks like Elfman has three nominations this year.

Congrats to Elfman and though I doubt he has a shot at winning any of those nominations. I hope he wins at least one of the categories. |

I'm very excited for the Oz score, more so than the movie. I'm just happy that he and Raimi are on good terms again.

Glad Elfman's experience with Raimi on this one was less stressful compare to Spider-man 2. |

Oz samples are on iTunes, the UK store at least.
It sounds as you're probably expecting. Can already hear themes for the Wicked Witch and Wizard. I'm really digging it, can't beat Elfman in pure fantasy mode. |

Though I plan on buying the Intrada cd of Oz. I'll wait to see how it works in the context of the film before hearing it seperate from it. I'm sure I'll enjoy the score regardless.

Any Elfman/Burton fans here that reside in London? If so, you're not going to want to miss this:

I've heard about it, but sadly (and this hurts for me to say this as a big fan of Elfman) won't be able to go. I live in America and don't have the money or time to go to London. I'm happy for those that get to go though. The man himself suppose to be there.
