And the war hero thing is higly unlikely to be part of his back story. The comics are merely a guide. You seem to want the most generic circa 1963 version of the character. WHY? The early Ultimates version of the character would do quite nicely, only less of a dick. But the film makers don't have to come close to following those early comics religiously. Allow the writers/director/actor to create something new that's still - in the broadest strokes - faithful to the comics. I.E. the MCU.

Its called an adaptation. And a modern one at that. Btw quoting Waid doesn't help your argument. He wants a throwback. Unfortunately, the Venture Brothers have already buried the idea of a polyglot badass millionaire adventurer character. A guy who can stretch his body like taffy is more believable than Doc Savage. The version you're describing belongs on Saturday morning tv (twenty years ago), not a pg-13 tentpole film for both adults and children.

Whedon said, in the runup to TA, that the biggest obstacle to a succesful Superhero movie was "Nostalgia". He was absolutely right.

Well ten years ago, I would have had Kevin Costner play Reed. He's too old now but that's how I thought of it. Denisof might work now though.

Jeremy Slater is rewriting the latest draft Michael Green submitted... time will only tell if Slater will jettison everything in Green's draft, save for the basic storyline.

He's my standard. Whenever somebody suggests a name, I compare it to him and ask myself: "Better or worse than Jon Hamm?"

So far no one else I've heard suggested has been better.

I SO agree. I like Reed as a pure leader, even more on the muscular side (as Kirby, Perez drew him)....not as big as Ben, but a muscular guy. Sue and Johnny better both be blonde. LOL
