Default What Bane Almost Looked Like in ‘The Dark Knight Rises

What Bane Almost Looked Like in ‘The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises‘ hits DVD and Blu-ray on December 4th (just in time for the holidays!) and a few early copies have leaked in advance of the official release. One of the behind-the-scenes documentaries included on the discs shows off some behind-the-scenes photos of Tom Hardy as Bane plus some concept art on what Bane almost looked like.
Because of his trademark mask, Bane was always going to be a difficult character to adapt into Christopher Nolan’s universe. (Remember how he looked like a Mexican wrestler in ‘Batman and Robin?’) But with all the options they had, it looks like Nolan and crew made the best choice.
None of the options below look like they would translate well and both of the “hood” designs look downright silly. You can also see the early sketch for the design they did use in the film to see how it evolved over development.
Another interesting photo is the shot of Tom Hardy as Bane before they digitally removed all of Hardy’s tattoos. It might not have made sense with the character, but the tattoos actually make him look even more menacing.

its art. its not awful. its obviously not right for the movie. but you have to get through different iterations to get what will eventually end up in the movie.

So glad we got what we were given. That alternate mask is hideous.

That's very Star Warsy.

"The Dark Knight Trilogy" is such a pretentious title, I'm leaning more towards "RISES: The Dark Batman Knight Begins".

That's much better.

Looks like a mix between Daffy Duck and Darth Vader.

Any pics of what Bane would have looked like without the mask? Would he have been missing his nose & lips perhaps from the beating that he took from all the prisoners in the hole?

Maybe his mouth area could have spun to the back of his head when Catwoman shot him.

For sure. The alternatives were atrociously bad.

They do look really bad, don't they? I'd have been interested to see it on a person though and not just a drawing.

If Bane had worn that mask, the sewer scene could of been an entirley different darker path, Catwoman could of simply said ....'bring out the gimp' cue Comanche

They clearly made the right choice. The full masks take too much away in terms of facial expressions, which Hardy excelled at in the movie. The chosen look is great, because it looks like hands tearing at Bane's nose and mouth. It's such a menacing look.

I think this one looks the best and better than what was used in the film, because it looks the closest to a wrestling mask.

Apparently he needs unnecessary tubing above his forehead.

The mask they used is the most "practical". Bane doesn't wear that **** because he thinks it makes him look pretty.

That particular mask is too busy, not to mention it covers up too much of his face. Same thing can be said about the rest of the concept masks. The version we got really is the best possible one.

I remember how much I wanted to see Bane wear a mask before he was shown. Now I'm glad it didn't happen.

You can tell it took a few tries to figure out how to make Bane look good in the Nolanverse.

The article mentions they removed Tom Hardy's tattoos digitally, is that true? I Only knew they applied make-up to his arms (which gave him that weird acne like surface to his skin).
