The only problem with that for me is it makes Clark seem like a liar

^Then Clark's a liar in most Superman stories, because he doesn't tell her who he is in the comics either.

Yea it might sound silly but him not telling and Lois not suspecting, is not worse IMO than her knowing and perhaps maybe asking where he was during a certain time, thus him lying to her face.

The only difference would be Lois KNOWING about his lying. Doesn't change Clark's character at all.

That said, I don't think Lois would interrogate him like that if she really knew. If she suspected the truth, maybe, but not if she 100% knew.

To be honest I don't like it in the Donner movies when Superman says he never lies, yes I understood that line had a purpose for the 3rd act but its total bull crap really cause he's lying everyday. I also don't think he needs to be that good that he never lies, I mean is he gonna tell little kids Santa doesn't exist? Infact that proves my point by him lying about not been Superman then it's a lie like Santa Claus, it's beneficial.

Lying and not telling the truth is not the same.

As above .............. technically, he doesn't lie ............ he just doesn't volunter the information about who he really is.

Has Lois ever actually said "Clark, are you Superman?" ...?? Then he would have to tell the truth, if he really is as honest as he says.

Exactly. Lying is denying when asked directly about something. Not telling the truth is innocent enough.

I do like parts of it. I grew up with it. The story might be better in the Donner-cut, but I absolutely hate the new scenes, mostly because of the distracting editing.

I just hate the hokieness of the Lester's cut, admittedly I'm not a fan of the turning back time ending again but it's better than a memory kiss. The Jor
El scenes and the fight scenes are better in Donners the fact that Superman actually punches Non is way better than that tacky looking kick in Lester's.

Well, in general I'm not a big fan of the sequel. It just started to get cheesy and extra-campy then and there.

Oh yeah I agree, the first film is by far the best.

Yeah, there's a world of difference in quality, which is strange if they were filmed almost back-to-back, no?

It's just that last scene in the trailer... it's making it impossible for the triangle to work.

Let me explain why (excuse me if any of this sounds incredibly girly).

In LnC and other incarnations, the reason it's almost plausible that she doesn't even look twice at Clark, is that she's swept up in the magic of this unattainable, alien superhero almost like a fan to a celebrity. And while she does actually develop strong feelings for him, because he is pretty much the perfect man (heroic, protective, kind, caring, passionate etc) and any girl would... she doesn't actually know him at all. She's just got this idea of him, and that idea is pretty much a lie. He makes sure to be very very private when in Superman guise, and not let on that he might actually have a human personality.

With Clark, because he's got such a full human personality, because he's got parents and a childhood and friends... she simply wouldn't ever think of putting the two together. It'd be sort of illogical.

Now, I grew up on that dynamic, and i've loved it for a long time.

But just looking at the obvious connection they have in that scene... that's not a school girl crush. That's not a cheesy, swept of her feet romance. That's two people who care about each other a lot... and it sort of says to me that they've been through something together beforehand. That perhaps she does know him a little better than any Lois has ever known any Superman this early on before.

And because of that, i'd find it hard to see how she wouldn't immediately see straight through such a flimsey disguise, when she's pretty much staring into his soul in that moment

Plus, i'm pretty sure that last 'what do you think' line is directed at Lois... so if he's talking to her about his father being afraid people wouldn't accept him, he's talking openly about his relationship with Jonathon Kent.
Something else of Note: It is Lois's hand that is extended first in the trailer, and then Superman takes Her hand... not the otherway around. I kind of feel that she is either taking control of situation (as Lois would), is saying she's alright with whatever it going take place, or she is saying "I do accept you!" at that moment. Just have to wait to find out.

Actually they were filmed simultaneously not back to back

But yeah I think the change if directors is what really stuffed it. I'm sure Donner would've added more.

not in those words, but in the Richard Donner cut of Superman 2, Lois takes a newspaper that has a picture of Superman and colors it to look like Clark to which Clark does outright deny it and says she has a very wild imagination (while smirking behind her cause she did figure it out lol)
