I think Coldblood is a living cyborg techno-zombie by the end of it... he really is just the muscle and a mindless assassin. The virus part of Extremis turns systems into zombies that it can use like hackers do as part of a bigger network/attack. Coldblood is the first step to Mandarin controlling the world's technology, America's air-force & China's navy.

Closer to what Cherokeesam's describing. He gets a form of Extremis and becomes partially mechanical. Killian creates it for AIM/Mandarin, but isn't in the movie much. Maya Hansen has more screen time, knows the dangers of Extremis in Mandarin's hands, and escapes after Killian is taken out.

The doctor injects Stark for Mandarin. He pretends to help Stark because they have a business relationship. Stark willingly takes Extremis because he trusts the doctor. Mandarin's reach knows no bounds and he had 10 rings men hidden everywhere..
He's trying to infiltrate Stark's body/the suits/Jarvis/the company at the same time, as well as other networks and even individuals who have taken Extremis. He wants to neutralize Stark and use Stark's own technology against the world. The US military doesn't know that their new toys are all linked to Iron Patriot through an AI network that AIM has created. They put him front and center and make him a commander of the drones and other suits. Firepower bonds with Iron Patriot, takes control of a large section of the US military for Mandarin. And Rhodey has to use a different armor for the end.

Maya tells Stark that Extremis will allow Mandarin to control any nervous system/computerized system. As well as anybody injected with it once he links it into AIM's central AI, almost Ultron as per my theories about the Pyms working for AIM... Extremis is also a virus that turns systems into obedient zombies like Coldblood after neutralizing their nervous systems. Even Taggert disagrees with what's going on when he realizes that having all the systems linked is a bad idea. He get's neutralized and forced into continuing to work with Mandarin. With Maya's help Tony fixes himself before it's too late, he has to alter the virus to regain control of his company before it spreads through Jarvis to the rest of the company, and before Coldblood, Firepower and Mandarin can infect all of China/USA's military through AIM. Possibly the rest of the world, giving Mandarin control of almost every computerized military system and anyone he can inject with Extremis.

here's more about the symbolic nature of the rings. mixed with my own speculation of course. I'm told the Makluan subplot is completely dropped, at one point there was a desire to explore it. So I don't know where Wardell got the Fin Fang Foom thing from. The dragon ring is mainly symbolic now and doesn't correspond with anything yet. Not all the rings' stories will be featured. But each ring has a story, an elemental nature/power theme to it that's explored in the film as part of Mandarin's lessons. Each making up one aspect of his network.

Mandarin literally controls Coldblood against his will. He's like a mindless assassin. He hasn't been brainwashed, he's been programmed. This sets up a difference between him and Winter Soldier. Mandarin still has his firepower and Coldpower working for him as 2 of his rings... Each ring represents a person/thing that's integral to Mandarin's empire. They correspond with his assassins and inside men within corporations and science. One is the doctor, even if he's not radioactive man, representing one of mandarin's powers related to infrared and radiation/nuclear medicine. Another represents the rearrangement of matter through science, this is Killian. One represents control- Mandarin's right middle finger ring, the Mento-Intensifier power: Magnifies the Mandarin’s psychic energy enabling him to mentally control a person (or thing in this story/those Extremis infected). Mandarin's main power in the movie. Controlling things. Also related to Stane, power/control, and the nerve neutralizer used in IM1.

Mandarin was really interested in the toy he had Stane build. Like his power to control Extremis and mento-intensifier ring power in the comics: only effective at short range. At least initially. With the nerve neutralizer he can completely freeze or stop the person's activities, he's given this power to Coldblood... Then he takes complete control of their nervous systems with Extremis. The upside is that the virus never completely infects Tony. Maya gets to him in time because the virus part was more of a Trojan horse that the Mandarin was using--he's adopted new/old tactics to neutralize Stark. He combines things, he uses Vanko's plot to hijack the robots in a new way, launches a more massive attack through implementing classical warfare. He admired Vanko, in a way, and Vanko wasn't a member just set on the track. Vanko's vision wasn't big enough. Stane/Raza got it, "imagine what you could do with an army of those things", multiple armies of them. Stark alters the virus, rewrites it, and can now control all of his remaining suits at the same time, using them against Mandarin through Jarvis. It takes too much concentration to do complicated things with 40 armors at once, but he needs each suit to play a part. Stark saved Jarvis from being overrun by a virus hidden in Extremis. Jarvis and War Machine (with a much bigger suit) are on his side against The Mandarin and everything/everyone he controls; which allows them to be in many places at once to stop Mandarin's plans. Taking out multiple threats at the same time, with Jarvis's help targeting. Firepower (now completely controlled) and AIM's AI are on Mandarin's side.

War Machine has previously got the jump on ColdBlood, and has to stop Taggert even though Taggert's being used against his will to harm the country he serves. Mandarin attacks from the inside, neutralizes, expands his power over the strongholds of the world, and converts to his will. He knows all about Shield and that soldiers are how you win battles. You can even infiltrate one of their soldiers and use his technologically infused body/his technology for your own purpose. Invades the strongholds and sieges them from the inside. He doesn't believe Iron Man or Captain America were heroes. They were only very talented soldiers. Iron Man made the mistake of making himself publicly known, and now having his spies associate IM with Shield. Mandarin knows about Shield, otherwise he wouldn't address them in the trailer... But Mandarin controls his soldiers like a ruthless Emperor, and doesn't believe in the power of heroes.

So, this is earlier in the story when he doesn´t have it yet? Fits with the idea of needing the operation to actually use it.

As for RDJ not being in the suit, well, he is the main character of a character-driven movie, he will be in like 90% of all the shots except the CGI battles, so I am OK with him not doing some more suit-slaving in freaking China.

Yes, some of the new suits/technology may be the threat and contains a virus. But some of the old suits too, parts of his entire network and everything connected to Jarvis become infected once he takes Extremis. Like a Trojan Horse. Someone associated with Mandarin gives Stark this gift that allows him to finish what he's working on. Rescue was a prototype for a suit controlled by thought. Mandarin was just testing his opponent's capabilities and how far he came with it. There's some competition in the controlling other things department. Extremis suit is the finished product when Tony switches to that. At first it seems great. But it's not only a gift.
It's an attack.
The entire system (Jarvis) becomes infected. Stark's able to quarantine himself, alter and rewrite the virus to his advantage.
Takes full control of a number of the remaining suits after curing Jarvis. Including but not limited to Rhodey stepping into what looks like the Hulkbuster... because it's not connected to Jarvis yet and has to be piloted manually. Firepower has the Iron Patriot suit and the old War Machine suit is compromised. It's something he's also been working on. An all out armor war ensues with the remaining armors, his Extremis armor that can now control the others, and the suits that haven't had Jarvis uploaded into them. In total there's more than 50 armors in the movie... I'm not joking when I say they're stepping up their game to at least match the scale of Avengers with badassery in phase 2.

It's a gift that's been offered to Stark through his business contacts. Left on his company's doorsteps. And when he takes Extremis, Mandarin knew that Tony would gladly accept this gift into his body, technology, company and AI. He uses some of the age old tactics of Siege warfare that are seldom seen since the 19th century, except in spy movies. He updates the Trojan horse concept, and Tony falls for it even though Trojan horses already exist in the computer world.

He didn't expect one to come from a doctor he's worked with before and in this form.

This lets the Mandarin into the company/Jarvis through Stark's body. (and into other AI systems/nervous systems worldwide through others).
Jarvis is working against enemy AI that's temporarily working with mandarin and his cyber slaves. Which makes combating the threats easier and harder(because they have AI on their side).
AIM created this AI, well partially, and Mandarin intends to use it to control the globe.
Jarvis is building up a defense against this AI throughout the movie and it pays off big time later.

Mandarin tells the world their system can be used to neutralize an attack like New York immediately, without any collateral damage. Making war obsolete when he's done. He wants a new form of political anarchy, ruled only by technology. He's not communist or capitalist, or a terrorist, or a fascist/dictator. He wants to relinquish control when he's done (so he says). Iron Man is only a soldier and soldiers incur collateral damage. His automated systems would protect better than Iron Mans were able to protect his home. Lets call this AI system Ultron. Wardell has it wrong, Ultron isn't leading the masters when he returns.

He's enslaving them and freeing the captured ones eventually, trying to attack Jarvis again... u know how the trailers always use certain songs from popular bands? some of my info, strange as this sounds, is coming from a song that's not released yet but will be included in an upcoming trailer or during the end credits. possibly another film, can't say too much. It's more like the first tango with the Masters results in a teamup with some of them against Thanos. They aren't the villains in the second movie, most of them start out imprisoned. Cap knows it's a bad idea to use some of the villains against Thanos. Mandarin is only part of a team of supervillain's who will be enslaved by the nano-virus he creates and under Jarvis's control until Ultron returns. A number of story-lines combined in a new way. Bringing in elements of Civil War Feige was talking about. Avengers 2 is Ultron & Thanos with some of the villains working with the heroes against their will, technologically in some cases. The first time we see the Masters all together on film they're helping in the fight against Thanos. Cap disagrees with this, but Thanos and Ultron are attacking and have combined forces because of a third variable... Even when Ultron is removed from the equation by Pym, some of the Villains who change sides are still going to protect the world from Thanos. Afterwards the recently freed prisoners go their separate ways. Phase 2 is about assembling the masters of evil in some ways, rounding them up. Thanos and Ultron free them and cause chaos. Stark is able to use some of the villains but Red Skull returns and takes control of the current masters. The non-captive masters are killing themselves anyway before Ultron shows up with Thanos and a new body. Stark/Jarvis have ways of dealing with ultron. Pym shows up too. The captured masters end up being an asset for a while. But they also end up being as asset to Thanos because of Ultron

"There are no heroes" in Mandarin's perspective, only soldiers and tools. As an archaeologist Mandi studies tools and technology across space, time, and cultures through artifacts. He thinks technology is the future, much like Stark's father. He aims to force the globe under his technocratic Anarchy with a world wide network joining China and America's military to AIM's central AI that will protect the world from anything bigger than New York. His plan is to display his power by neutralizing/controlling America & China--forcing the other superpower nations to submit. He has the senator push the political angle against Shield and the Avengers, against Stark directly as the public face. His combination of technology will save the world from any attack from space instantly, without casualties he says. Iron Man becomes the focus of all his resources. He didn't know that heroes do exist. Jarvis is one of the heroes, not the villain AIM's A.I. will become.

He's trying to destroy Stark Industries from within using the systems he has his fingers in. Using business, politics, science, the military, and IM's own technology and friends against him. Even trying to neutralize/control Stark from within.

I'm positive the snow scene takes place in or near Chattanooga, TN. There's actually a good deal of story in IM3 that's apparently set there --- a beauty pageant (where Stan Lee's cameo is rumored to fit in), the crater scene and the makeshift memorial set up around it, a hospital scene involving Tony being surrounded by a horde of local TV news crews (all with fake TV station logos mentioning Chattanooga and environs), and a pretty good dose of snow around Chattanooga.

I'm willing to bet that Chattanooga represents the "belly of the whale" part of the IM3 script, where Tony is pretty much on his own for whatever reason, and forced to confront the real world and real (i.e., blue collar) people and depend on them, win their trust, or whatever.

We had two lifeline calls; one was to [Star Trek Into Darkness director] J.J. Abrams, which was about the third act [of Iron Man]. And for the other call, we went to Shane’s house. We couldn’t afford him, so in exchange for helping us with a few key scenes, he asked for a piece of Salmon and fresh blueberries.”

Recalling Shane's contribution, the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang actor continued, “For instance, in the Iron Man scene where Tony Stark comes back from captivity and calls a press conference, and then asked everybody to sit down, the speech Stark gives all came from Shane Black. So to get him to do Iron Man 3, it has just been this awesome experience and one of my favorite working experiences. Iron Man 3 is going to be a very, very bold genre film, from the storytelling.”

“Jon Favreau reprises his role as Happy Hogun,” said Downey, after acknowledging that Favreau’s no longer in the director’s chair. “Happy has an amazing arc in this movie. In fact, probably the best two bits of acting in the movie, so far from what I can tell...which sucks because I’m in every frame, are Favreau as Happy Hogun...I can’t give away much, but it’s ridiculous. He's enslaving them and freeing the captured ones eventually, trying to attack Jarvis again... u know how the trailers always use certain songs from popular bands? some of my info, strange as this sounds, is coming from a song that's not released yet but will be included in an upcoming trailer or during the end credits. possibly another film, can't say too much. It's more like the first tango with the Masters results in a teamup with some of them against Thanos. They aren't the villains in the second movie, most of them start out imprisoned. Cap knows it's a bad idea to use some of the villains against Thanos. Mandarin is only part of a team of supervillain's who will be enslaved by the nano-virus he creates and under Jarvis's control until Ultron returns. A number of story-lines combined in a new way. Bringing in elements of Civil War Feige was talking about. Avengers 2 is Ultron & Thanos with some of the villains working with the heroes against their will, technologically in some cases. The first time we see the Masters all together on film they're helping in the fight against Thanos. Cap disagrees with this, but Thanos and Ultron are attacking and have combined forces because of a third variable... Even when Ultron is removed from the equation by Pym, some of the Villains who change sides are still going to protect the world from Thanos. Afterwards the recently freed prisoners go their separate ways. Phase 2 is about assembling the masters of evil in some ways, rounding them up. Thanos and Ultron free them and cause chaos. Stark is able to use some of the villains but Red Skull returns and takes control of the current masters. The non-captive masters are killing themselves anyway before Ultron shows up with Thanos and a new body. Stark/Jarvis have ways of dealing with ultron. Pym shows up too. The captured masters end up being an asset for a while. But they also end up being as asset to Thanos because of Ultron

He thinks technology is the future, much like Stark's father. He aims to force the globe under his technocratic Anarchy with a world wide network joining China and America's military to AIM's central AI that will protect the world from anything bigger than New York. His plan is to display his power by neutralizing/controlling America & China--forcing the other superpower nations to submit. He has the senator push the political angle against Shield and the Avengers, against Stark directly as the public face. His combination of technology will save the world from any attack from space instantly, without casualties he says. Iron Man becomes the focus of all his resources. He didn't know that heroes do exist. Jarvis is one of the heroes, not the villain AIM's A.I. will become.

He's trying to destroy Stark Industries from within using the systems he has his fingers in. Using business, politics, science, the military, and IM's own technology and friends against him. Even trying to neutralize/control Stark from within.

Seriously. It *all* makes perfect sense, when you read it carefully. Dunno who you're getting your inside info from, but I firmly believe you just outlined the whole damn plot. (And it also confirms that Rhodey *isn't* wearing the Iron Patriot armor --- at least not in *all* those scenes. The white guy we saw several months ago was NOT a stuntman for Cheadle --- he was most definitely Ashley Hamilton, the missing link in this movie so far.) That's why spoiler-haters should read ONLY at your own risk.
