It's cool. You might like it after you read ASM 700, but you'll probably hate it like most seem to. Personally I like it and I'm excited to see where Slott is going with this.
Side note, just read Avenging 15.1 a bit ago, and man was that a weird issue. Got me pretty psyched for Superior though.

I haven't read that one yet. I'm willing to give it a couple of issues but I can not see me caring about the character or storylines as much as before.I think Slott is doing this for shock factor be cause now he has some kind of power. Dont get me wrong I dont know him at all but the interviews i have seen and read he just comes off as a arrogant ass who claims to be this huge spideman fan but then brags how much hate mail hes going to get and have to go into hiding and from the looks of if he was right plus some. I mean really for Wacker to say people will forget about Parker and his fans will fade away was king of bs to me. These fans have built the character to the popularity it is today and to just give them the middle finger seems kind of arrogant.

I've a question on this as I've seen the old mind swap trick done a few times down the years in the books but it's always left a bit vague (or not dealt with at all) about the Soul aspect.
Does transferring a mind electronically also swap out the soul as well? I know Peter appears to get a glimpse of heaven in 700 (suggesting that is indeed the case) but if Sable is revealed to have survived then that scene's rendered a delusion. I just remember a ways back when Walter Langowski had his soul (not just his mind, it was his actual soul) forced into the Hulks body displacing Banner's soul briefly into an astral form. But if it's just the mind (brain patterns etc) being transferred electronically by some gizmo, then how do the souls get swapped out as well? If this seems like a silly question I'm in my sick bed (flu) and bored, so please excuse me.

Honestly, I'm not sure that many stories are planned down to that level. I'd say if it doesn't come into consideration within the story itself then just ignore it. Though with them including a heaven sequence then it could be argued they are, at least indirectly, touching upon the issue of the soul in the story.
My personal opinion is that you can't really have one without the other. Mind and soul go together. As for Sable. If she is indeed alive within the story itself as it's currently planned, then that would render the heaven sequence a delusion as far as the story is concerned. Though if it's later found out that she's alive through an unplanned story in the future then it's a retcon and the heaven sequence's relation to that story (if it's not directly addressed) is an oversight.

So, ASM 700 is all over the net. I'm not gonna say where or how to get it (because it's against the rules) but I decided to check it out for a few reasons....
A)I've already spoiled myself, reading spoilers across the internet B)Didn't feel like waiting another week and.... C)Even after reading it I still plan on dropping money on multiple copies because after all it's a milestone collectors edition. Marvel is still gonna get my money at the end of the day. So in fairness to Dan Slott, who occasionally posts here, I won't provide any details about the story until it after comes out. If others want to it's on them. I'm still trying to process the story and I'll go back and read it several times so it properly sinks in. My first reaction is this: It was relieved.....relieved to see that this wasn't another OMD situation where Peter makes a horribly out of character moral decision. This was Peter doing the best he could in the situation given. Was the story great? Excellent? Best of all time???? I don't what to categorize it as right now because I mostly I feel sad with the ending. It does pack an emotional whallop several times over the course of the book. Dan Slott has in no way tarnished Spider-Man or Peter Parker that's for sure. For anyone to say this is another attempt by Marvel to destroy Spider-Man or swear off Spider-Man comics forever is a major overreaction. This is not OMD, this is not Sins Past, this is nothing like those. I'm 10000000% sure Peter Parker will be back someday. This book does not change that.

I have faith in Dan Slott. His Spidey has been great so far, and I'm sure he has a long term plan here. Looking forward to it.

Guys... everything to do with Mary Jane now is creepy and disturbing. IF she finds out and is somehow OK with it... She's dead to me.

I rather like it. It's a massive cop-out in a way, but that is the point. Dan Slott found a way to kill a major character without actually killing a major character. The whole thing almost reads like a satire of major comic character deaths. The ending is just so frustrating, but at the same time a complete relief, because Peter Parker really didn't die at all, but he did, but he didn't. Yet he did. Kind of. Not really.
Isn't this what happens every time though. Even now a "cold body" means nothing, since no one stays dead. So that, to me, is the point. Also, this death, in fact, does MEAN something. It's proof that Spider-Man's philosophy and life "won" in a battle of wits with Doc Ock. If they ever unwrite this it'll mean Peter's life, in fact, means nothing, and his death means nothing. This was ballsy, interesting and completely off the beaten path. I like it. |

Honestly I thought it was cheap, hack-writing, that did absolutely nothing to progress anything. What's the point of all of this? To reboot the character? Now we're still going to have the same supporting cast, same settings, etc. It's just kind of creepy now. It took the soul away from the story. And the whole thing at the end with Peter sending his memories Doc Ock's way, didn't Dr. Octopus already have all of Peter's memories? Wasn't that part of the whole mind-swap thing?
I thought it was generally understood that the costume and the super-powers aren't what make the character, that the secret-identity was far more important that the costume. Now they're trying to say that Doctor Octopus is Spider-Man? Pass. Too many comic writers and incompetent editors are relying increasingly on cheap shock-value stunts to progress their stories as opposed to just creating good stories. I thought this was a complete bastardization of the character and pretty much a spit in the face to its fans. |

This does mean though that Peter Parker now remembers sleeping with Mary Jane...and Aunt May.

According to Slott what Aunt May was referring to was Otto seeing her in her wedding dress before the wedding.
Quote:
The point is to show how, now that Otto has taken over Peter/Spidey's life and memories how will he live? Now that he isn't trapped with the crumy life that Otto had, the bad childhood, the bad choices. Now that he has a good life, youth, friends, powers, and good memories and a track record of good choice, how will Otto live as Peter? Its a character study. What makes a villain? If a villain suddenly had the hero's life would he still be a villain? And what about a villain trying to be a hero? It will be interesting to see how Ock as Spidey tries to be a hero. This is just a story, it wont last forever. Eventually (even 3 years later maybe) Peter will return. This is just a fun character study. Otto has all of Peter's memories and sees the choices Peter made, how will that effect Otto now? Will Otto go down the same path that led to him being Doc Ock Super criminal? Or will he be a hero? I say just sit back and enjoy the stories. I do want some heroes to figure it out, like maybe Wolverine, Dr. Strange, |

Read #700 today. Will admit it, I cried like a lil b*tch. I loved it from beginning to end and it's great to see how humble Stan was in his replies

Dear Marvel: As much as I love complex story, there is a phrase you need to learn and apply to your main characters, as it seems you have forgotten to keep it simple, stupid. Edit: Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

I agree this is written with a story arc in mind, probably with lasting consequences, but with a basic return to the status quo as soon as the arc ends. But I rather like the idea of Otto living on like another Uncle Ben figure who encourages Peter Parker to be more assertive and act as his confidence. It's cute and poignant in a way.

I'm guessing it'll last at least until ASM2 is in the theaters.
This kind of gives me a Cyclops/Apocalypse vibe.
