Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread

Bond is a lucrative brand, especially overseas, but the amount of money Bond is making from Skyfall hasn't been seen since the height of Sean Connery's Goldfinger and Thunderball. Superman is one of the most known icons in the world, up their with Micky Mouse and Jesus Christ. All they have to do is make a film about this Icon that captures the zeitgeist in a way that Nolan's Batman and Mendes' Skyfall has, and I think they can come close to selling as many tickets as the original Superman by Richard Donner. I don't know how much that film adjusts to, but it can't be far from a Billion. Plus, it has a helping hand Skyfall never had, 3D.

Adjusted, Wikipedia has it at roughly 478 million, though that is only the adjusted US gross, not the WW gross.

Probably not too much seeing as the last good superman flick came out in the early 80's, so this film has to sell superman to the public. Bond as a character can sell himself.

The reboot Casino Royale didn't gross a billion dollars worldwide. That's what this film should be compared to not SkyFall. So yeah the billion talk is ridiculous unless somebody can name one reboot than grossed a billion.

Avengers aided Iron Man 3 has a shot and so does Catching Fire which should explode Twilight. style overseas but Man of Steel? Not a chance in hell.

Maybe not probable but possible, yes, so it's not ridiculous. I'll be happy with a great movie and would like to have more great Superman movies. So how ever much money it needs to achieve that is what I want. You're sounding more like a hater then a realist.

TASM made close to $800 mil and that's a movie that the fans are now all butthurt about but the GA loved it apparently. I have a feeling that MOS will be a better movie.

Some things to consider before taking away all chances in hell:

1. CBM are great overseas. This is Superman (one most recognized characters in history) and he's an English fellow.

2. Movies about alien invasions and big action own the box office.

3. The Nolan co. name is on it after a very successful Batman run.

4. The 2nd trailer has an outstanding buzz and it wasn't even the Big Daddy trailer. And... it hasn't hit tv yet. Only online and in front of Some hobbit showings.

5. It's Superman in 3D. (Neither Casino Royal or Skyfall were shown in that format. Skyfall still hit the bill. I wouldn't have given that chance in hell.)

6. Repeat viewings and word of mouth. I actually saw SR 4 times in theaters just bc it was a Superman movie and I didn't like SR one bit. I'll probably see MOS 10 times. at least.

Now, again, I'm not saying that it definitely will. I'm saying is that's possible and has just as much of a chance in hell to hit it the mark as any movie with it's potential.

I didn't see any overwhelming love for TAS. I think the general audience were mostly fine with it but it did not have as good reception as Batman Begins or the first Spider-Man movie or even Iron Man.

I'm off topic a bit so anyway: It's going to be interesting seeing all of the disappointed overzealous fanboys when this movie doesn't hit a billion dollars.

TASM's BO-success was a pretty big surprise to me. I just dont understand when Spider-Man3 was such a joke and TASM completely retold the origin. Again. The almost exact same one.

If this movie make 800m world wide, I don't think i'll be any disappointed overzealous fanboys in here, because we definitely gonna get a sequel.

If it make 650m are 700m, it will get a sequel and that's all that matters.

Because spidey has become a good brand. Which means the name itself sells. Just like pirate. POTC. the last 2 were so bad, yet they made billions. That's why they r making POTC 5.

A billion is never easy, if it were every big budget movie would make that much. The crappy release date will hinder any records or billion dollar grosses. And the fact that it is a reboot.

Expecting a billion is a set up for crushing disappointment.

I'm with you guys. It's too early to predict a billion, and all the previous movies that made a billion this year had years of movies building up to it, so that's against MoS right there.

It's not impossible. Burton's Alice in Wonderland in the billion dollar club was a bit of a surprise.

Unfortunately, Supes has a lot of baggage to overcome. So doing $1B is highly unlikely. Upside: it doesn't have to. A good movie with decent box office (a la Batman Begins) would be just fine.

AIW made as much because Avatar kicked off the 3D craze. AIW just happened to be the next big movie released after that to benefit greatly from it.

A billion? No way. As of now I think roughly 600, maybe 650 mill. Of course that guess is subject to change.

$800 million. At least. I think with the backing of Chris Nolan you get the Dark Knight fans, you get Superman fans, newly found superhero fans from films like The Avengers and even Smallville fans who never liked Superman before that show.
