apparently they're overhauling both Gamora and Drax's origins for the film, according to LatinoReview.. it sounds like it will be a surprise what these characters final look will be.. I've heard it could be a mix of the new comic costumes, classic look mixed with new takes from the Marvel Studios concept artists..

Yes I could see him in a small bit part or featured role but he won't get any sort of lead.

Michael Rosenbaum is a bit too old to play Star Lord, he's forty years old.

I called this earlier but CBM is saying that John Krasinski (Office, Promised Land) is also in the mix for Quill. He was a Captain America candidate during casting for First Avenger.



They've gone one further by mentioning possible candidates for the role of Drax. The "actors" include Dave Bautista (Riddick, The Man With The Iron Fists) , Isaiah Mustafa (Old Spice Commercials) and Brian Patrick Wade (Big Bang Theory, Generation Kill). You might remember Mustafa had been campaigning for the role of Luke Cage/Power Man.

JGL is most likely the frontrunner for Star Lord but I could easily support Krasinski for the role too. I think he is a quality actor and has the potential to carry a franchise and Peter Quill does seem like a better fit that Steve Rogers.

I agree. My top three contenders are Edgerton, Krasinski and JGL. If one has to choose between those calibers, one can consider himself a very lucky director.

Isn't CBM a fan site?? I wonder how reliable it is.

The contenders for Drax....never heard of them before, so no opinion of them.

Goodness, can they just faster cast Star Lord so we can move onto the other characters already.

CBM does have reliable stuff sometimes but they also get fooled a bunch..it's apparently coming from their own "source".. don't take it more than a rumor, it's not a trade or heavily reliable like sites such as SlashFilm, Collider or LatinoReview..



even worse is that another rumor circling today is that an ex-Superman (Brandon Routh or Tom Welling) has tested as well.. I don't know why but them even being considered angers me.. I thought Marvel was upping their casting prestige when they hired Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner both Oscar caliber talent.. so when they start looking at has-been actors for a lead it pisses me off...



Welling being mentioned doesn't anger me as much as Routh.. Brandon is the Hayden Christensen of the comic book film genre with wooden performances in Superman Returns, Scott Pilgrim and the horrible Dylan Dog...I think he's had enough chances in the genre and not proving a thing..perhaps his connections to the show Chuck might have helped him, if he's even being considered..



I get the impression that Gunn could have written in a lot of small parts/cameos for his friends during his re-writes of the script..allowing him to place anyone he wants in those parts.. while Marvel/Kevin Feige have more say for leads, villains and supporting roles..next thing Belladonna or Sasha Grey who worked on Gunn's PG Porn shorts will be rumored for Gamora lol

The idea that they might be considering Levi and Krasinski is what upsets me. Levi is already in another franchise, so putting him in a major role in GotG would be ridiculous. There is enough talent available that Marvel does not have to use the same actor in two roles, like their franchises are episodes of Star Trek or something.


As for Krasinski, he's just not leading man caliber, nor is he a good fit for an action movie. Marvel already passed over this guy for Captain America, and with good reason. Leave him to sitcoms and romcoms, where he belongs.

I do hope Rosenbaum shows up in this movie somewhere though (not as Quill but as another character). I've always felt he was an underrated actor whose career has probably been stunted by the Smallville association.

According to many, Marvel was sold on Krasiniski as Cap but then backtracked when the fan reaction was decidedly mixed. That's when they tried to get Evans in (who I believe had declined to test for it) and succeeded. Not repping Krasinski for any role, just saying.

Yeah, I don't get the Krasinski hate. I supported him for Cap because I was interested to see what he could do with it, but in hindsight Evans really is the better choice. Clearly Marvel Studios has some interest in both him and his wife and sooner or later they are going get one or both. Krasinski as Quill I think would work. That said if JGL wants this, it should be his.

Fanboys already have visuals in their heads regarding what the characters should look like, that's pretty much it. My thought is, if the dude can capture the persona of the character, don't dismiss it until we've seen it.

One thing I think they should go for is getting a couple more well knowns actors. It could help more as this movie is based upon Marvel's more obscure comics. And I hate to make this comparsion, but one of the reasons Dredd flopped at the theaters was that it was based off a comic that isn't popular with casual movie goers and it didn't have any big name actors.

It doesn't even have to be lead roles. IE Nicolas Cage in Kick-ass and Anthony Hopkins in Thor.
