Something about that suggestion feels a bit... too obvious? Like an extension of his role in Avatar, in a way? That said, he's a great villain actor. =)

How does Dr Strange get put ahead Black Panther?

Strange isn't even an essential member of the Avengers like BP is.

Also I hate when people say BP doesn't add anything to the team.

He's the only Avenger who shares all the attributes of the main members.

Hulk's raw, primal intensity

This makes him one the most flexible members. You can't box him in.

Maybe. With Doctor Strange and Ant-Man, you open up the MCU to two unique corners of the universe--the world of magic and possibly the Microverse. Also, in response to MessiahDecoy, be sure not to limit the vision of the MCU as Avengers-only. Sure, the culmination of Phase III could be an Avengers sequel, but if they open up the MCU enough, we could see Phase III culminate to an even bigger storyline, beyond just the Avengers.

As for Black Panther, Wakanda is also a unique corner of the MCU, so let's not count it out until they announce otherwise. And who knows? Maybe Cap 3 will take place in Wakanda.

I doubt Dr Strange has anything to do with "expanding the Avengers." Its about expanding the *MCU* as a whole. Not everything has to feed back to the Avengers, after all.

Why not wait till phase 4 to expand to other parts of Marvel Universe?

Building up towards Avengers 3 should be the highest priority which means introducing important new Avenger members like the Black Panther and Ant Man.

That's your opinion, but it might not be the direction Marvel is choosing to go. I actually think they're doing both simultaneously. They are planning an Ant-Man movie ("introducing an important new Avengers member," as you said) as well as planning a Doctor Strange movie (expanding the territory of the MCU). And again, let's not complain about Black Panther's exclusion until Phase 3 officially excludes him.

It's important to note that while each phase does culminate with a big team-up or big event movie, Marvel is trying to make each individual film in each phase unique and compelling all on their own. Iron Man 3 will probably be as tied to Avengers 2 as the first Iron Man movie was to the Avengers--easter eggs and a teaser after the credits.The rest of the first Iron Man movie (95% of it) wasn't about building up towards the Avengers--it was about Tony Stark's journey. A Doctor Strange movie can be the same way, even if Phase 3 culminates in Avengers 3.

Also, I disagree that they should wait until phase 4 to expand to other parts of the Marvel Universe. You don't want the audience to think your whole cinematic universe is focused on and directly related to only 6 or 7 superheroes.

I love this post cause it's so true. Lets not forget when BP had no problems going toe to toe with each member in Avengers: EMH. I mean who else has taken down Hank in his giant form using nerve points? That show did T'Challa a lot of justice in terms of his abilities and genius level.

I read on another forum an idea in which Cap's shield breaks somehow in CA 2 or 3 and Steve goes straight to the source to fix it. Wakanda. Steven is shown flying over it to the palace on a SHIELD cruiser.

I don't see how Dr. Strange is a major expansion to MU.

He's not the Fantastic Four.

It would be a huge mistake to skip a Black Panther solo film just to slightly expand Marvel Universe with a premature Dr. Strange flick.

Why not wait? It's not like Marvel/Disney have many more A-list or B-list characters outside Avengers. Make a classic Avengers trilogy (which means adequate solo films) first.

There's plenty of time for left over characters later. Plenty.

2. Marvel wants to delve heavy into the "magic" realm of movies and well, they damn sure wont do a Brother VooDoo movie now would they?
