Judge Dredd Reboot!! - Part 2

Finally got this movie on BD, loved it even more than in the cinema, Urban is just so good as Dredd, he IS the character. But while he has been getting the plaudits, and rightly so, I think Olivia Thirlby has been a bit over-looked as well, she was superb as Anderson, especially as the rookie version, all of the cast were superb.

I just love the world they created as well, the subtle hints about Mega City One beyond Peach Trees, like the acknowledgement of Mutants, gangs, the living conditions, its all just superb, it would be a crime if we didnt get a sequel.

Respectfully disagree - people love hyper-violent flicks now just as much as tHey did in the 80's IMO. At the time of release there where numerous examples posted on here of people assuming that Dredd wasnt a reboot; that it had a connection to the Stallone film and folk were therefore reluctant to go see it as a result.

Couldnt agree more BB, people, like me and i'm assuming yourself, like us were raised in the 80's and on these types of movies, and personally speaking I still love them to death, and welcome more and more as long as they are good.

Remake is redoing the same story with some differences sprinkled here and there (ie Psycho, Evil Dead, King Kong)

Reboot is only taking the core characters in a completely new story and direction (ie Casino Royale, Batman Begins, The Amazing Spider-Man)

^Yep, and now we can Dredd and i'd even say you could put Jack Reacher in there, it wasnt that violent but the use of NO CGI was so refreshing.

cool,, I still have not seen Jack Reacher although i have not heard anything bad... Thats another thing i liked about Thomas Jane Punisher it had that gritty no cgi feel.

Lionsgate generally dominates the charts this time of year, taking advantage of the fourth-quarter blowout by the major studios to release some of its recent theatricals in January and February.

The new year is no exception, with the mini-major topping both national sales charts the week ending Jan. 13 with Dredd, a sci-fi actioner that earned just $13.4 million in theaters. The theatrical underperformer – a reboot of the 1995 Sylvester Stallone film Judge Dredd – debuted at No. 1 on both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which tracks overall disc sales, and Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.

All this says is there's a home video market for it. So we'll maybe see a DTV sequel but there won't be a theatrical sequel any time soon.

Good news that its selling well in the US, seems to be here in the UK as well, Tesco had no copies left on Wednesday when I went in, hope it sells really well all over the world as that can only help the chances of a sequel.

...maybe not anytime soon. However, seeing as to how the film is already on its path to become an instant cult-classic, and if the film continues doing well the next couple of weeks, I could see a theatrical sequel happening in maybe after 7 or 8 years from now, once it has its solid place in the public's consciousness. Maybe. Ofcourse, a strong deciding factor could probably be in whatever happens in Karl Urban's career in the years ahead.

Films, for example, like Punisher: War Zone, and Conan The Barbarian never had a chance of a sequel because they not only failed commercially at the box office, but they were critical failures as well, despite doing a little better on home video. Dredd is not like these two.

In the meantime, I would love an animated DTV Judge Dredd feature!

Hmm,, not to sure I agree here... Dredd was not a critical faliure from anyting I read. Commercially you could say it was.. I always go to the 2004 Punisher which was allot like Dredd 3D. The DVD saved 2004 punisher and is what greenlit the sequel,, although it fell apart. Now if Dredd pushes on I really cannot see why a sequel could not go to the big screen... Plus these kinda movies are coming back.... bullet to the head, the last stand, expendables... You maybe right but I think to dismiss a sequel later then sooner to the big screen would be a mistake.

PS.. Fuc* an animated or direct to TV sequel,, bring everyone back! Lets role... lol,,Dont take me seriously its just me hoping...

just watched this movie earlier and i thought it was surprisingly good. had my doubts about when i first saw the trailer a few months ago, but turns out it was much better than i had anticipated. one of the best comic to film adaptions in recent years. too bad it tanked at the box office though because i would have really loved to see a sequel.

The aftermarket sales is good news and if it performs well in cable/netflix, etc too then DNA might push for a sequel hoping the general public who passed at the theatres (a lot were barely aware it was on...) will have realised they missed out on a bit of a gem last year. Dredd is still 2000AD's biggest name, and I figure they aint gonna give up on him if they can see this one has gained belated appeal.

One things for sure, if they greenlight a sequel I'd hope they make a distribution deal to fund the marketing next time round (let people know its out there for Christ's sake). And keep a lid on the script...Don't want the plot swiped again for some other flick that comes out earlier to steal its thunder somewhat.

If they went animated, I'd prefer to see a more 'western' animation style than the whole Anime inspired Animatix/Gotham Knight approach. Actually, as I'm typing this I'm wondering what happened to that proposed ABC Warrior cartoon? The promo's been on Youtube for ages but the project seems to have stalled.
