The "stigma", "Baggage" etc. of SR is not as much as we think, I think many non fans have already forgotten about it.

Not this again, do you guys think that average joe takes a look at company's accounts sheets to figure out how exactly the movie is profitable to studios after all the costs have been added up ? No, the viewers are concerned only with the interest they have in a particular movie.

Look at the the number of tickets sold.

Number of people who attended the movie shows in theaters is still more than other movie, I have given. (remember that for TIH, X-Men FC and Captain America had added advantage of higher ticket prices , still they made less worldwide.)

Yeah, on the Empire forum they said that the last issue, with the star trek cover, was the first part of the 2013 preview that has been split in two, and that the second one is the superhero coverage..I swear that if in that issue, Wb continues to bring the handcuffed Supes still or the desert one, I'll boycott the movie as long as I can

In that case it will have Iron Man 3 on the cover, inside in the MOS part a pic of the bank vault and supes in cuffs (maybe the pic with the army behind him). I bet you one Benjamin Franklin!

a studio does'nt care how much the audiences likes it if they don't get their money back then whats the point

Batman & Robin wan't a flop... it was moderate success financially. Between the box office, video sales and the merchanside, WB made their money back.

It may not have been alot like the previous three, but they still made a profit.

For it's budget, Superman Returns was a disaster for WB. For the general public, I think it's pretty much a forgotten movie now so it makes no real difference.

Yes, it is business for Studios, but I am not talking about what Studios think.

I am taking about the response given to the movie (SR) by the general audiences, they did go and see the movie.

And the number of people who went to watch Superman Returns were more then many other movies like The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, X-Men First Class and many other that I am not even including here (for example, Ghost Rider 1,2, Punisher, Green Lantern etc.)

Which shows that the movie was a mediocre success as people did not reject the movie as they did with Green Lantern, Judge Dredd.

So, the talk of the SR having a huge stigma is incorrect.

It was disappointment for WB, disaster is a word that can be used for movies like Green Lantern (for WB.), John Carter (for Disney.)

General Public gave a mediocre response to SR, and by now they may have forgotten it was released in 2006.

Well, then I stand corrected, B&R was a mediocre success, but it got worst reviews.

As for SR, it got many good reviews and good enough ratings so situation is very different from that of B&R.

Man Of Steel will not be affected by Superman Returns. (IMO.)

Yes. But the ads that get analyzed and endlessly replayed tend to be those humorous/creative/controversial ones for beer, cars, etc. that are specifically made for the Super Bowl. Do the pundits typically pay much attention to more-or-less conventional movie trailers? Sure, the massive exposure is good. But if, on Monday morning, everyone’s talking about singing frogs or the hilarious Betty White, then the “calculus” of not getting a big enough bang from the sizable bucks becomes a factor.

Also - I’m not sure that the artsy, atmospheric tone of the trailer would play that well to the Super Bowl demographic. (“Oh, they’re making another Superman movie? Meh.”) Now of course, they could cut a 30 sec spot that’s jam-packed with action and money shots. But I get the impression that WB wants to dole out this stuff carefully and strategically. So showing “the goods” in February (for a June release) might have been considered "peaking too soon."

B.B was loved by the public despite its BO being less than SR...
Capn America made less, it's getting a sequel too.
Same with first class. why is that I wonder. The public wasnt split with those films and a hunger for sequels was there is why. WB would have made a sequel if they thought it would have been accepted.

The last superman film wasnt embraced like BB was, so we are now getting a total reboot. so it really doesnt matter if the last film scored a 100 or 20 on RT If the public didnt like it overall, and by that I mean the majority of the movie going public. DvD sales might could have convinced WB to move forward ( like it did with BB), but they werent that great either.

The Super Bowl gives you great exposure but to me it's overall effect is overrated. No one will be on line in June because of an ad they saw in Feb. Most have a short attention span.

With the Avengers they built up an audience over several years and gained great momentum. The other thing they did was create great buzz a few weeks before it opened by having a special screening and then everyone tweeted how great it was.

yeah, its just fair so far..not bad, but not good either, just fair.
I really thought by now that we would have seen some concept art of krypton and the FOS, a full shot of Zod, maybe a sample of the score etc.
There is still time for them to ratchet it up, but time is running out.

I'm pretty stunned they havent hit this harder. I really am. But then again, this is WB so I shouldn't be.

I can't read WB's mind, but common sense says they are either very confident they have a hit on their hands and aren't overly concerned with the marketing, or....
they are afraid it's gonna be another SR and aren't willing to lose more money..
My guess is they think they have a hit..It certainly looks like it from the trailer.
