Extremely linear and scripted games tend to have "better" graphics thanks to the conservation of polygons when rendering relatively smaller playing areas. It's no surprise that barely-interactive games like "Heavy Rain" "look" better in comparison to world-builders like Oblivion. It's not so much a hardware issue as it is a game design issue.

I would hardly call Uncharted barely interactive though and it definetly looks better than all multiplatform games on both systems (and the 360 exclusives). Besides you are comparing one set of genre to another. Why not use something like Alan Wake which is more comparable to HR than Oblivion. Or Gears to Uncharted. If you think game design is the issue then compare games with more similar mechanics and ones which are drastically different by design

I'm glad that all the different rumoured specs recently are a lot better than the rumours were a few months ago.

Rumors are swarming that both consoles will be announced before E3. I'm sure Sony and Microsoft both know the dates they will unveil, and it has nothing to do with the other's plans.

IF the rumors are true about the new console being released this year during the holiday season then they sure need to reveal the thing at any of the conventions or something before E3 and then launch games&price at E3.

It would be a huge rushed clusterfu** IF they wait to reveal the console/specs&features/games/the future for it plus 360 stuff all together

Supposedly it's going to be revealed at GDC or possibly even sooner.

Yeah, GDC makes a lot of sense. Even more sense than E3 in my opinion. Because while we know the thing is coming and there are certain developers out there making games for it, we have to keep in mind that officially it doesn't exist. And there are many, many more developers out there that don't reside within Microsoft's inner circle who are probably itching for the thing to be officially announced so they can start buying devkits.

Will the new Xbox ship late this year or next year?

Well if you read the thread you can see that it hasn't even been announced yet, and rumors state this year.

Agreed with both above. I think we need to know about it before E3 so they can really go to town and that can be the definitive showcase before Thanksgiving/Xmas. If the announcement takes place at E3 it will take away some of the focus and potential positive surprise by itself. You can only absorb so much at one time and if for eg both PS4 & 360 were announced during E3 you would come away with less new info as a chunk of your brain is still dealing with facts that we'd be better off knowing in advance. I want E3 to be able to give a strong focus to the games coming out for each machine while the hardware specs & 1st look at the machines take place ahead of time.

I hope the next XBOX makes it easier to transfer content from a USB stick to the hd.

it's annoying that I can't save my pictures, music, or video files directly to my 360's hd.

The Xbox website was updated with a new tab called "The New Xbox", but this change was quickly undone.

There's not much to see, but someone managed to grab a screenshot:
