"has really earned the right to free speech"
For someone who writes a television show, she doesn't present herself as being very intelligent saying something like that.

During the election campaign, she made some comments during a monologue ad that equated voting for the first time to loosing your virginity.

And how was that offensive? Of course I wouldn't put it in those words but isn't anything you try for the first time (learning how to drive, first to go to college, first time buying a house) in a way like losing your virginity?

I can't for the life of me understand why people like the show. Perhaps the least entertaining thing I saw... until 1600 Penn (but I digress).
Granted, I only saw half of the pilot. And I'm not part of the demographic it's aiming for (trust fund hipsters). Still, personal insults just because someone made a show you don't like is over the line. |

Here's a perfect analysis of why the ad was so disgraceful toward any reasonably intelligent woman.

I think the main reason for the hate for Dunham (I don't) is not just the nepotism (because this is Hollywood after all. It's nothing new.) but also it's her fast rise to fame. Even people with nepotism had to pay their due for a few years, be it JJ Abrams or Jason Reitman.
Personally, I think my 'what' moment with her was with 'Tiny Furniture'. It's an okay indie movie that she directed. But for it to get a Criteron DVD/Blu release is so weird and arbitrary. Not all of the Criterion DVDs are 'classics' in a conventional sense, but at least they have to have a cult/cultural status. Kinda like with Repo Man, Videodrome or a Wes Anderson movie. And it's not like anyone is talking about 'Tiny Furniture' all the time like a movie like Primer or whatever. And from there, she gets a HBO show. It's a weird rise to fame. Of course, with the internet, there's never a threshold, so the backlash which probably had some foundation at the beginning is now just horse-beating and over-the-top. Golgo-13 is maybe right. She might be connected. Or..Maybe she's very good at what she does. But now it seems she's the poster girl of extreme nepotism, and this digital world with an economic crisis who is obsessed with celebrities, she's an easy target.

You're so over-the-top and silly hence why no one is backing you up on this one.

I do have to admit that when I met David O. Russell in person, he was kind of a prick. He wasn't outright rude, but he was very curt. But his assistant was nice.
