I don't think that's anything to worry about. I highly doubt Marvel would have given her the role of female lead just so that she could appear on SHIELD... something that as far as I know, hasn't even been rumored. The role she's playing IS a big deal and I'm certain that she would not have been given the part unless she have an audition that impressed them.

Also, and I know that I'm probably going to get flack for this, but as drop dead-sell-your-soul gorgeous as Hayley Atwell was in the first film, when she was first cast, outside of her amazing... um... assets, I thought her looks were somewhat generic. Here is the first picture I saw of her:



Pretty yes, but this picture doesn't even hint at how beautiful she would look in the film. I know Emily VanCamp isn't the hottest girl ever, but she has the kind of physical beauty that looks real and not all "Hollywood". To me, that's a good thing. We won't know what she'll look like in character until we get some set images or official stills. Her being a lesser known actress is also something I'm happy about.

Yup, same here. She was extremely good in Carriers... totally different from her character on Revenge. Here's a scene from Carriers that shows that she does have some range and can play a character that's a bit more light hearted:

Emily looks a bit younger than she does on Revenge in that film. More of a girl who could still potentially play a teenager. In Revenge she looks more like a woman.

Yeah, Carriers was filmed back in 2007 or 08 so she does look quite a bit younger there.

Comic women are, by large, generic. Sharon is drawn the same way as Carol or Sue Storm most of the time. Heck, if you ignore the hair color, she looks a lot like Natasha.

VanCamp is in no way anymore "generically pretty" than any of the other actresses rumored for the role.

what is this, a porno? They don't have to cast bombshells. There are normal looking people in the world. They can cast normal looking people who are pretty. its fine. She's not the hottest girl, but she doesn't have to be.

They need to cast some average looking SHIELD agents anyway, otherwise it will start looking like they only pick attractive women to work in that organisation. Not that I'm saying Emily is average, but I'm talking about any other women there. It will look like SHIELD picked people purely on appearance and not any skills.

Yeah... I'm not the biggest EVC cheerleader, but even I think the chick is pretty damn gorgeous. She's definitely got a cool All-American Girl next door vibe, but she can switch to brittle and hard pretty well. It's a look that will go well with the spy persona I think.

DOUBLE YES if casting EVC meant we also get Gabriel Mann as Sharon's snarky and fashionably dressed handler/S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. That would be amazing!

And Madeleine Stowe as Madame Masque.

EVC's co-star and real life bf Josh Bowman looks like he could be play a SHIELD agent too. And Barry Sloane could be someone as well. And although they will completely reimagine Elektra if she ever reappears in the Marvel universe, if somehow they did want to have someone who looks like the young Jennifer Garner, then look no further than Christa B Allen, who seems to make a career out of playing the young Garner.

The pic is cool overall, but her head looks a little pasted on. I think it's the angle, and also the lighting on her face is different. Aren't there any pics of Emily where she's looking more diagonally to the left of the picture? Or at least light her face so that the backlight is illuminating the left side of her face more.
