This choice works for me and I'm sure he'll do great. Pratt never crossed my mind for a role like this which is probably a good thing. Hoping he'll surprise a lot of people.

This is so weird after having watched him on Parks and Rec for so long now. Hard to take him seriously.

I have seen it and I liked him. Just hard to shake because it one of my favorite shows. I am sure he will be great.

They seem to be hiring quite a few television actors this time around. I wonder if that is to keep the cost down considering the Phase 1 crew is probable going to start making bank.

Chris Pratt's a good choice. He's done both comedy and drama. Did well in Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty.

Pratt's career path IMHO greatly resembles Bradley Cooper in some ways. I mean just think, 8 years ago Cooper was the douchey antagonist in Wedding Crashers.

More inspired casting from Marvel. I like how they don't go after the biggest names in Hollywood to play their characters. The characters make the actors, not the other way around.

I've never seen a movie with this guy in it but I've seen a bit of Parks and recreation. I don't know why but he seems perfect. He's rough but he's good with humour. He's good looking but not an underwear model. I could see him being quite the star.

I can't wait for Marvel and the director's comments!

I remember when Chris Pratt was in The OC. Seems a solid choice.
I hope Lee Pace lands Ant-Man. He would be a great Pym or Lang.

I'd heard of Chris, but haven't seen him in anything.

At first I was like "They've cast the wrong bearded dude from Zero Dark Thirty!"

But he seems like a solid pick - I think those comedic chops might come into play, and he seems like a likeable dude in interviews so optimistic he'll do a fine job as Quill.

that brings up a good point... will we see any of the other names from the short list in other roles (either in this movie, or other future marvel movies)

what characters could some of the rest of those actors fit?

So since Pratt is also on TV, I wonder if he'd now be able to make an appearance in SHIELD. Of course, he's not such an easy fit like Cobie Smulders, ScarJo, Renner, SLJ or Emily Van Camp, since he's not a SHIELD agent. He'd have to be a superhero guest star that week.

Rowsdowser, I liked Cooper in Wedding Crashers. My point is that look how much Cooper has grown as a performer from being like probably 10th down on the cast list 8 years ago to where he is now. I think Pratt's career is going in a similar direction.

Hopefully Pratt will be in shape like this for Guardians:

Obviously Pratt is not going to be sporting his Parks and Rec physique some people are going nuts that they cast a "fat guy" in the role but really we've seen him in Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty and in both he dropped weight.
