Casting has been kind of quiet since the Star-Lord announcement. As I recall, a few of the films (specifically Thor) had an avalanche of casting where every major role was announced in quick succession.

I can't wait until we get our real Thanos (Sorry Stunt Guy Poitier. Not happening.)

IIRC Thor and Loki were cast at the same time, and then Portman was cast like 2 months later, and then it was around 6 months until anyone else was cast (but everyone else was basically cast at once)

That was a different situation though, since Thor and Loki were both cast super early in the process. I imagine we'll get at least 3 more cast members before April

I'd suspect that we get at least two more castings over the next three weeks. I mean we still need the remainder of the team, Thanos, probably Adam Warlock, and maybe Carol Danvers.

Thor and Loki were cast at the same time probably because Marvel were originally eyeing Hiddleston potentially for Thor himself, but thought he'd be better suited for Loki. So it looks like they found their leads at pretty much the same time.

Apart from all this fan casting of Drax, do we know if there are any actual candidates on a shortlist? And what about Gamora? Anything concrete there?

Marvel could be waiting for Pratt's Parks & Rec schedule to clear up so he can test with potential castmates in various combinations.

You're probably right on Thanos, though landing a fairly high profile leading man may take pressure off Marvel to cast a big name for the role. Whoever plays Thanos will require a stunt double, so Stunt Guy Poitier may once again find himself in purple makeup this summer.

Yes but given the hype's love of casting actors ten years too old for a cbm role, I decided I'd give that suggestion a whirl.

Groot's voice work wouldn't be incredibly demanding. Why not throw $250k at Morgan Freeman for an afternoon's worth of work?

Met him at Celebration 5. Seemed ok but had to be annoyed that almost nobody was coming up to his table for autographs.
