Slice of life story in sci-fi setting?

I am looking for a book that takes place in a sci-fi setting, that is the future of our planet or maybe another planet, doesnt really matter.

Oh, and here's the thing: the story should not be dependent on that it is a sci-fi setting.

It should be a story that could be played out in our present day, for example, but just happens to be set in a sci-fi world. Could be a "slice of life"-story (ideally this!) But it could also be a thriller or comedy or whatever, just that it is not a story that uses the sci-fi as importance to the story. Ie. instead of following space heroes, I would like to follow a normal person living in this kind of world.

Is there such a book?
