It may just be Cumberbatch himself but it seems like Harrison has a really prominent spine.

I think I figured it out...he's Khan.
But he's not a genetically grown superhuman. He is a scientist that experimented on himself to make himself better. But that kind of experimentation is illegal in the Federation which is why he was hush hush with the family in the prologue and why he tells Kirk he is better at everything.

No fan would accept such a drastic change. Besides, you kinda explained storylines from "the augments" from ENT and Bashir's origin in DS9

This has since been changed to just "VOYAGE INTO THE NEW STAR TREK", except for in the URL: http://backissues.ew.com/storefront/...20130215A.html
So was that a legitimate spoiler, or a typo? Hmmm... |

I don't think he's Khan. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe its wishful thinking, but I don't think he is Khan.

Only after the point in time when Nero arrived. Everything before that, Khan, First Contact, and the Enterprise TV show as well, remain the same (so in this timeline the Botany Bay has either been found after Nero's incursion or is still adrift in deep space).

Changing Khan's origin that drastically would just be disrespectful to an already perfect origin

After all this Robert April speculation, that's what I've got my heart set on (with maybe a tag at the end hinting at Khan for movie #3. Remember the guy in the trailer everyone says looks like a young Khan from behind?) It's probably not, but still.

If Cumberbatch is Khan, he sure as hell doesn't look Indian!
I still think Benicio del Toro is going to show up. All that stuff with him being the villain then dropping out was a misdirection. del Toro will be Khan, and Cumberbatch will be someone else.

Some quick googling for comparison pics leads me to think that is NOT his normal spine. But I'm hesitant to call klingon -- the space seed angle still seems more likely to me.

I would be interesting if Cumberbatch was indeed playing a Klingon character, or with Klingon "enhancements."

Fishing for clues the writer of the comics says no: 1, 4 & 12 of his series contain hints to the new movie (some are 'direct', others 'thematic').
No 1 was a redo of the Gary Mitchell story. No: 4 was a re-do of the episode where a shuttle with Spock, bones etc, is trapped on a planet of cavemen types (and Kirk has a commissioner on the Enterprise telling him to abandon them), and 12 is about...Tribbles...And Scotty's transwarp transportation technique (he finally recovers Admiral archer's prize beagle). So, purely guessing here...With No:1 Maybe 'Harrrison' is really Gary Mitchell after all (Urban did call him that name to rebut it shortly after) No: 4 may be referring to the theme of Kirk having to choose to save the life of a crew member or leave them to die (which we've already seen in the preview), and 12...Maybe Scotty's long distance transportation thingie is how they get to the 'war torn' world (presumably a Klingon one) to go after Harrison (since it looks like they won't have a starship at that point that'd kinda make sense). Not sure what angle they are going with if Cumberbatch really is Mitchell though. Figure the original transformation he went through will not apply here.

Is there a Klingon character famous for posing as a human in any of the series?

The Klingon empire considered them 'sworn enemies' as a result and wiped them out. Also, at this point in time in the original timeline most of the klingon's look human anyway (Just with overdone tans and dubious goatee beards). They could reveal they discovered a cure to the retro-virus that left them looking that way sooner though.

Wobbly's example of Arne Darvin is the best example, but there have been other different types of that sort of thing. The entire Klingon experiment to cross Klingons with human augment DNA could be interpreted as a form of subterfuge. Also, B'elanna "became human" one time when her Klingon DNA was extracted by the Vedians in a crazy medical experiment.

I still think Khan is in the movie, but he won't be played by Cumberbatch.
