No, they werent going to continue Skyfall's storyline. They were going to have the next film lead into a direct sequel. The next film would have begun a two film storyline.

Picked up the bluray. The transfer is pretty good, but I noticed a lot of ghosting during dark scenes, especially near the end of the film.

Another thing I noticed, they seemed to focus on Bonds gun shot wound in the shoulder for thematic purposes, which surprises me, since it was Eves gun shot that had more of an impact (nearly killing him, which allowed for him to waste away drunk on the beach). You'd think that they'd have focused more on that, but the wound was only mentioned in passing.

Yes they're worth it if you haven't seen the film's. Buy it and please watch them in order of release.

Yeah, those can be skipped, LOL! I just got a copy of Skyfall from my GF for Valentine's Day. I am super psyched to rewatch it. Big, big fan of the movie. Hoping Mendes makes his involvement on the next film official soon. He did a marvelous job putting Skyfall together. Really interested to see where he'd take the series from here.

Having just picked up the Bond 22 film set myself, I can say that it is fabulous.

Am watching them in order, watched On Her Majesty's Secret Service today and I have a newfound respect for the movie. So much so that it jumped into my top 5 favorite Bond movies.

Getting back on subject, while I can appreciate how some people would have Skyfall as one of their top Bond movies, I think I'm going to watch it a few more times before I can really say where I'd put it among my favorites. Gut reaction is top 10, but not top 5.

Part of the charm of the series is taking the bad with the good. DAF, MR and DAD are wholly nowhere near as good as the rest but they still have some sort of entertainment value. As for OHMSS, that film is arguably one of the best in the series and has been in my top 5 from day one.

Moonraker is worth watching, if only for its pre-credits sequence. You can stop after that.

Did they recover the stolen hard drive with the Nato undercover agents info in Skyfall?

I can't remember if they did or not.

They did, right after M sees him in his cell she asks what else was found on his computer and asks if he's transmitted the list to anyone and if so who.

It might be worth it since opinion differs from person to person.

But if you just want to see the essential Bond (the great to good ones) here's the general consensus. See all the Connery films since they follow one another and finish the story of SPECTRE/Blofeld.

I would love to get the Bond set, but I just don't have the money right now. Stupid comic books!

I do already own Skyfall, Casino Royale, and From Russia with Love so I guess I will slowly get the individual releases.

A big yes from me. Fantastic set. Only movie of the series I didn't enjoy at all was Die Another Day. That's a huge piece of ****.

The worst part of Die Another Day is that it starts off so good. I love the pre title sequence as well as him getting tortured. Even the next 20 minutes or so after are great than once Halle Berry comes into play it starts going downhill. I really like the scene with John Cleese even if it does introduce the invisible car. Though I feel that scene would have been one of the best in the series if it was old Q instead especially looking at all the old gadgets. Also the car fight on ice was pretty spectacular.

The interesting thing about Skyfall is that it achieves what many of the Brosnan Bond films hinted at or only attempted in a half ass way.

For example, In DAD ,we have a Bond who's broken in the beginning and has to alot to prove once he returns but from there it gets silly.

In TWINE we have an injuried Bond who's returned to the field but we never see how hard it is for him to physically come back from his pain, and he's basically a Superman throughout the rest of the film. IN TWINE we also see that the villians have a vendetta against M but in the end the vendetta twist feels more like an after thought then a real emotional punch that we get in Skyfall.

In GE , we have a rogue 00 who goes into buisness for himself though his motivation is a bit shakey and the idea of being Bond's dark half isn't explored as well as it could be.

In GE and TMD , we have unconventional villians who argue that the cold war nation states are no longer threats but that computers and the mass media are the new weapons of the 21st century. However, both plans by the villians have global consequences like the rest of the Bond films of the past. However, Silva has this power and uses it as a twisted personal vendetta against M and MI6 and displays very public fireworks which is far more interesting imo, than the broad objectives in GE and TMD.

Don't get me wrong, I like a couple of the Brosnan films, and Brosnan is one of my favorite Bonds. However its interesting to see that in Skyfall they finally got it right and weren't afraid to take the mature themes and subjects all the way in favor of doing a paint by numbers Bond flick.

I haven't read the books in awhile, but Skyfall got me wondering about Bond's past.

1.) How did his parents die?

2.) What did he do in the Navy?

3.) How long did he serve before joining MI6?

Quote:

Avoid Diamonds Are Forever, most of Moore's films (I don't give a sh** about camp value or feelings of nostalgia. They were terrible, period.), The Living Daylights, and Die Another Day.

My Favorite Five:

From Russia With Love
For Your Eyes Only
License To Kill
The World Is Not Enough
Casino Royale

The General Consensus Fav 5:

Goldfinger
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
The Spy Who Loved Me
Goldeneye
Skyfall

1.) How did his parents die? - Skiing accident in Switzerland when he was 11 a couple weeks before his b-day (Nov). It's also hinted at that they were murdered because his father Andrew and uncle Max (younger brother to Andrew) because both were spies in WW1, got kidnapped and Max was never the same. He was at the Bond family home with Uncle Max and Aunt Charmaine at the time of their death.

2.) What did he do in the Navy? Lower level intelligence passing and serving on a ship under Sir Miles Messrvy (M) who was so impressed with Bond as a young man that when he "retired" from the navy to start his shipping company he took him and several other men from the ship with him to the private sector when the war was over. He was then stationed at "Station J" (Jamaica) for 6 years running intelligence for the West Indies, South and Central america. The same job that Strineways has in Dr No that got him killed and got Bond sent back to Jamaica.

3.) How long did he serve before joining MI6? He starts working for Universal Exports at 32. First section of MR starting with Bond going crazy with boredom from office work. This chapter covers how long 00 agents serve and what they do when actually at the office ... which is still a real shipping firm.

If you wanna sort get an essence of Bond , these are the ones I would recommend. I'd try to get them seperately on Amazon though so you don't have to spend alot on alot of the bad ones.

Goldfinger
From Russia with Love
On Her Majesty's secret service
