As for screen time just take a look at the poster concept Marvel decided to release when announcing GotG. That should let you know the direction they're heading in.

Many of the reports though have indicated a focus on the three humanoid characters, which makes sense. Star-Lord is the lead, and Gamora and Drax have pertinent back story: a connection to the alleged antagonist, Thanos. Drax lost his family to Thanos, and Thanos is Gamora's family.

I'm not denying Rocket will be the breakout star, but he won't take a central role in the plot. I see him firmly in the mascot/ comic relief role vs. being in any dramatic, character driven scenes. His purpose is to make audiences laugh and say "Oh, ****...it's a talking Raccoon."

Rocket and Groot will be more similar to the droids in Star Wars and Chewbacca.

But I hope Rocket gets a bigger role than either of those 3.

This is random, but I just wanted to say Star-Lord is one of the most badass superhero names I've ever heard. It sounds so majestic. "Peter Quill, The Lord of the Stars."

It reminds me of that Monster Magnet song, Space Lord. They should use that as his theme.

It always reminded me of the David Bowie song "Star Man."

Despite the fact that they've never bumped uglies in the comic book, do you guys think Marvel will push Gamora as Star-Lord's love interest? I think I'd prefer to see flirtation and sexual tension without anything actually happen (Think Pepper and Tony in IM1.)

Seems like Bendis will have them as an item in the comic in no time, and yeah I definitely expect them to be love interests in the movie

That would be very out of character for Drax.

I think so too. Bendis's writing of Gamora in Avengers Assemble was his most offensively out of character writing of any of the Guardians. He wrote her like a Green Wonder Woman vs. an anti-Wonder Woman. Gamora is feisty, sarcastic to a fault, and anything but classy.

I really hope he doesn't turn this into a typical superhero romance. The Guardians of quirky, and need to stay quirky.

Everything about that Avengers Assemble "arc" was abysmal. Bendis has apparently been on his a-game for X-Men though so I'm sorta hopeful that his Guardians book will be fun instead of mind-numbingly stupid.

That'd be nice. Avengers was the first MCU movie without a romantic sub-plot. While I'd rather see Gamora with Nova or Warlock, I think the comics and movies will shoehorn a Star-Lord/ Gamora romance.

There was 12% of a romantic sub-plot.
